The Yankees have played four games so far on their West Coast road trip. The first two were night games at 10PM East Coast time, and they lost both. The next two were day games at 4PM East Coast time, and they won both. Physiology’s a fucker.

I don’t know when they left NYC, but I assume it was from the ballpark after their afternoon win over the Blue Jays, which ended before 4:00. They would have had more than a day and a half to recover in Seattle, and are elite level athletes. This study (http://bit.ly/91yYrF) suggests that there is a slight effect over the course of the season (though I haven’t seen their data and can’t vouch for it), but given the extra time off they had, and the fact that these are elite-level athletes (with the exception of Bartolo Colon and Joba Chamberlain, of course), it wouldn’t surprise me if the effect is negligible.
They may be suffering from an acute case of having to face Michael Pineda and Felix Hernandez with Ivan Nova and AJ Burnett. Before getting to Jason Vargas, and getting to use CC Sabathia. I have no explanation for what Colon did on Monday. That’s just baseball.
Also, how can you be such a fucking communist and love the Yankees? Don’t you just inherently hate yourself for the internal contradiction? Is it like when two comic book characters from separate timelines are forced into the same body and have to share the same headspace?

Eh, a day and a half isn’t enough time to recover from sleep disruption or to entrain to a three-hour difference in sunrise. The basic physiology isn’t substantively altered by elite athlete status. Elite athletes might have higher absolute performance of tasks, and thus higher performance during fatigue periods, but when the task is competing against other less-fatigued elite athletes, the argument flops.
Yankees suck. But even the Evil Empire’s suprachiasmatic nuclei function like those of the rest of humanity.
