If you’re gonna be a narcissistic asshole, at least have the fucking decency to be a fun one.

    Can I be right instead?

  2. Isis the Scientist says

Unless you have a solution, I consider this entire conversation to be a waste of time.

  3. Katharine says

At least narcissistic assholes can be smart!

I just had to deal with a class full of minging idiots that can’t even figure out how to divide a fucking micrometer into nanometers or figure out what a fucking nucleus is.

In my perfect world, anyone that cannot pass introductory biology at the college level or at least understand the metric system, evolution, and parts of the cell should be shot.

  4. Isabel says

You sound like a real prize Katherine. Maybe you should be shot. Then there would be a little less hatred in the world.

  5. Isabel says

Hey BB. What a coincidence. I was just reminiscing about my early days around these parts, and was about to reread the infamous religion vs reality thread. You know the one where you got into a big thing with deadhead daisy and you were outed as some 1970s cult leader or something. As I remember you got so bent out of shape about it you finally closed down your blog. Ah the good old days.

Hey btw where were you when I was trying to enlighten CPP in reference to his class privilege? I thought that was your forte?

  6. Isabel says

Btw BB, I normally don’t say things that are mean, and I disapproved of DD’s actions at the time and did not join the pile-on, but your comment above was uncalled for and really insulting.

  7. The Barefoot Bum says

This commenter is 100% indifferent to your feelings of being insulted or what you believe is or is not called for.

And, FTR, I make no secret that I was a member (a very junior member, not at all a leader) of the Kerista Commune for about a year in the 1980s. It was without a doubt a highly weird environment, but a rewarding and interesting year nonetheless. Daisy Deadhead claims she remembers me from that time, but I have no recollection of ever meeting her.

And I’ve closed my blog a few times for various reasons, but none of those reasons have anything whatsoever to do with you or Daisy Deadhead, except in the most general sense that sometimes the sheer weight of stupidity and assholiness of the world gets to me.

  8. The Barefoot Bum says

Hey btw where were you when I was trying to enlighten CPP in reference to his class privilege? I thought that was your forte?

    1. Apparently elsewhere: I can’t be everywhere. If you want me, sometimes you need to go find me, or find a way to muddle through without my perspicacious commentary.

    2. Why should CPP need educating about class privilege?

    3. Why should I believe you yourself are capable of enlightening anyone about anything?

  9. Katharine says

What was that, Isabel? I didn’t hear you, I was too busy listening to actual rational people.

  10. Isabel says

I said the comment was insulting weirdo, I didn’t say I was insulted! BIG difference. Anyway you sure seemed pretty flustered at the time. When you disappeared and shut down your blog I was actually a little worried. I’m sure I was not the only one. Glad you are doing better!

Wow touche Katherine! What a sharp wit!

It’s pathetic that you feel you constantly need to remind everyone that you are so much more intelligent than everyone around you. Blah blah blah yeah we get it already. However when you blame all the problems of the world on stupid people, and start obsessively (what is it 4 or 5 posts now?) talking IQ cutoffs and mass extermination it gets creepy.

And I am pretty sure I’m the only rational person around here at the moment!

  11. The Barefoot Bum says

Anyway you sure seemed pretty flustered at the time.

<shrugs> I do get flustered sometimes. Shit happens, rama rama.

When you disappeared and shut down your blog I was actually a little worried.

    I’m touched.

It’s pathetic that you feel you constantly need to remind everyone that you are so much more intelligent than everyone around you.

Is this directed at me or Katharine? I myself have written nothing that even remotely resembles IQ cutoffs, but that’s never stopped you before.

In either case, neither she nor I seem to be talking about we’re more intelligent than everyone else. I certainly believe I’m much more intelligent than you personally (and Katherine might well believe something similar). In much the same sense it would be equally arrogant to assert I can run faster than Stephen Hawking.

And I am pretty sure I’m the only rational person around here at the moment!

Among your many faults, no one can justly allege a deficiency of unintentional irony.

  12. The Barefoot Bum says

And much as I enjoy trading barb, I … wait a second, I do enjoy it. I’ll be here all week! Tip your server!

  13. Isabel says

“but that’s never stopped you before.”

but it’s no fun when you just make stuff up whole cloth. In fact I’ve never accused you or anyone of doing anything they didn’t do. That’s not my style babe, so it’s boring to defend myself from such an accusation, but irritating to ignore. So just cut it out okay man?

I was obviously talking to Katherine, who has made at least 4 or 5 (that’s just the threads I’ve read) comments lately of a type I described.

“I certainly believe I’m much more intelligent than you personally (and Katherine might well believe something similar). ”

Hahahaha finally a good laugh. Thanks.

  14. Katharine says

Isabel, all of what you say is really funny coming from you when at least from what I’m aware of the proprietor of this blog, DrugMonkey, and similar also think you are full of wharrgarbl. Please correct me if I’m wrong, because unlike Isabel, I maintain the awareness that it is entirely possible that I am totally wrong about what I think.

“‘I certainly believe I’m much more intelligent than you personally (and Katherine might well believe something similar). ‘

Hahahaha finally a good laugh. Thanks.”

    Your Dunning-Kruger problem is showing.

  15. Isabel says

Hahaha she doesn’t even know whose blog she’s complaining about her stupid students on.

Katherine, if you were really intelligent and confident you would make your own decisions about people. And I wouldn’t make assumptions about what other people think.

  16. Katharine says

drugmonkey, I meant ComradePhysioProf, you, and others. I didn’t mean to call you the proprietor of this blog. :D

Isabel, I do make my own decisions about people. For instance, I have made the decision that you’re an idiot. However, I welcome evidence that I may be wrong.

  17. Isabel says

Drugmonkey never said I was an idiot, or anything along those lines. He also made it clear recently that he disagrees with CPP that I am in any way crazy. We have a little history arguing over his disingenuous posts about cannabis legalization that’s all. In fact we recently starred in out own cartoon together. Maybe you’re just jealous?

Evidence? What is your evidence that I’m an idiot? I’d like to hear it.

  18. says

He also made it clear recently that he disagrees with CPP that I am in any way crazy.

What I said was that I don’t think that you are mentally incapacitated in a diagnosable way. This was by way of saying that if I did suspect there was something serious going on with you or another commenter, I wouldn’t be too keen on continued colloquial use of “loon” and such on my blog.

Drugmonkey never said I was an idiot, or anything along those lines.

well, perhaps not directly Isabel. :-)

  19. Isabel says

Well, what DO you think. :)

I am curious to know! Not that I am really concerned but it would be interesting.

Also, I don’t remember you using the words “diagnosable” or “serious”.

    :)

    well, perhaps not directly Isabel.

I guess I’ve said worse to you. But I didn’t really mean it, it was a rhetorical device. :)

  20. Alejandra says

Here we are again with our Christian leaders raising their flags to support and justify inequality. Go read:

“Immigration overhaul could leave gay couples out” Washington Post.

Of course, their gospel is that God did not create humans to be equal in dignity and rights. God created rich or poor, heterosexual or homosexual people and we are to accept God’s design for each of us.

Sheer CRAP. And a sheer philosophy to justify privilege for some and misery for the rest. I am a Christian and proud of it but do not recognize this kind of christianity.
