Right-Wing Demagoguery

Sara Robinson has a very passionate post up at Orcinus today in which she excoriates right-wing demagogues such as Limbaugh, Beck, and the like for inciting wackaloon racist, misogynist, anti-semitic fuck-up murderers into committing terrorist acts on their fellow citizens.

As part of her analysis, she asks the following question:

Are you deliberately trying to start a civil war? Or are you willing to work for real civility, and return to your seat at the table, ready to help us choose the country’s future?

The answer, of course, is that right-wing demagogues want neither of these things. They just want to create enough disorder and distraction and fear to prevent any real progressive politics and policies from taking solid root, and thereby to keep the field clear for the corporate oligarch interests that they serve.

I think you give them too much credit. Most of these fucktards are not nearly as crafty as you seem to think they are, PP. Note even close. They just like being all riled up, and so do their audiences; this creates a positive feedback and drives ratings.

    Thank you, sir.

Exactly my thoughts when I read it earlier (and now feel no further need to comment on it).

The Rushbots move to spread confusion during the last election was the giveaway as to their ultimate goals.

    Nothing for anyone but themselves.

    Greed rules!

    Rightwing patriotism on parade.

Yes, they are trying to start a civil war. They’d love for all of us pansy-ass milquetoast faint-at-the-sight-of-blood multicultural all-tolerant liberals to give up without a fight. But if it comes to a civil war, they’re not afraid to fight, and they’re not afraid to win.

I daresay that, should the right-wing incite civil war expecting an easy victory, they will be in for one hell of a surprise. Progressives are not nearly so pacifistic as they like everyone to believe.

And don’t forget: for the likes of Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity et al, spewing their hate-filled, ignorant vitriol is an extremely lucrative gig.

    I have to agree here.

Progressives are not nearly so pacifistic as they like everyone to believe.

I’d like to think (like Joan Baez in Daybreak) that I’d only try to shoot the gun out of the other guy’s hand, but if it’s Rushbo or his ilk (and they are aiming at one of my family) . . . I’d have to think hard about it.

Civil War, if that’s what they really want, will be much harder on the idealists, although it’s quite difficult to see any of the rightwing draft dodgers (cannot itemize all of them) doing any actual fighting. Their forte is in urging their ignorant violent followers to do their bidding like Nazi sympathizer Von Brunn and Operation Rescue murderer Roeder.

I see why Gonzo has a link to you on her site.

    Yes. Quite right.

Oh! I thought that all of their craziness stems from the cognitive dissonance between two opposing forces in their sick minds:

    a) they really, really, really want to get laid, just one, please?

    b) they are really, really, really afraid of the teeth inside vaginas.

So, their frustration has to be blown somewhere else (as nobody would blow them) – the target being folks who are not afraid of teeth in vaginas, aka, people with non-sick minds, aka, non-conservatives.

    Hahahaaha!!!
    That sums it up perfectly.
