I thought it was some kindof special Ohio chicken but that thing don’t look like no chicken. I think its some weird human/nut hybrid. Anyway, who cares, the ohio state university sucks! GO HEELS!!!

Isn’t a buckeye some kind of a horse chestnut? Little kids used to play some kind of game with ‘em? I think it’s analogous to conkers from the UK, where kids would try to get the biggest buckeye so they could smash other kids’ buckeyes.

It comes from a particular kind of tree and is small and dark brown, with a light brown dot in the center. I had never actually seen one until moving to PSU, they have them everywhere here too.

Here is more information and pics of the seeds.

The luck thing mentioned on the link is actually a pretty common thought, and I had one given to me when I was little for that reason. Some people also use the nut as a kind of “worry stone” since it is very smooth (also seen this several times).

I’m finishing up my Ph.D. at Ohio State so this post kind of pissed me off.

    Just sayin’.

The buckeye is a nut kind of like a chestnut. The tree that it grows on is found all over the state. They are toxic, so the buckeye is often called a “killer nut.” Brutus the Buckeye is… um… a buckeye-man thing. But hey, at least we have a mascot (unlike Michigan). And honestly, I don’t think Brutus is particularly more stupid-looking than a lot of other college mascots. For example, the Nittany Lion looks like a goofy bear, and the official mascot of Purdue is technically a locomotive.

It’s a huge and deadly grenade that will kick your butt, Comrade, and don’t you forget it. KAPOW DUDE!

As a “comrade”–you should at least appreciate that one of the colors is RED.

Speaking of which, there is some poor child in Columbus named Scarlett Ann Grey. (Really, they used to put her photo on the front page of the newspaper every OSU/Michigan game weekend…)

    CPP,
That’s a typo. It’s actually spelled ‘Suckeye’. It is the apt mascot of a school in the Big Ten conference (which contains eleven teams). Is our children learning?

As people from Michigan say “A buckeye is a hairless nut”.

The only joke that I know is “Why doesn’t Michigan float out into the great lakes? Because Ohio sucks!”

The Buckeye is a poisonous nut.
People who go to the university of michigan in particular, have a habit of choking on this nut come football season.

*that random potshot brought to you by a Michigan State alumnus*

you are all fucking retarded. the buckeye is the state tree of ohio and the buckeye nut is poisonous. i bet if you pussies ate one you would puke and I bet if you gave one to your pet it would die. So why dont you fuckers gain a little knowledge before bashing something you don’t know anything about. GO BUCKS!!!
