<blockquote>I’m sure Gary Aldridge would agree.</blockquote>

Well, his last gasps might have involved how rubber doesn't prevent asphyxiation... I'm quite sure he was well insulated against electrical shocks? Anyhoo, this is veering way off the topic of the possible flavors of PZ.

Or is he wearing two neoprene wetsuits as well? Does that modify the flavor?

Arbor:
'Xe' sounds contrived because it is. That doesnt make it inherently worse than 'she' or 'he' or
'they'. I see the deliberate creation of this word as a good thing. It allows for the inclusion of all genders, rather than just one (thus making all the others invisible). When using 'xe', why do you believe attention is more focused on the writer than hir attempt to employ gender neutrality? Is that what happens when YOU see 'xe' (or do you believe this is a view shared by many others) ? You think about the writer? Why that vs the reason many people use the term? When I used 'hir' above, does that word have the same effect on you?
Don't use the word if you don't like it, obviously, but I'm trying to understand your opposition to it and I cannot.
---
That said, I'm not going to dehumanize anyone by referring to them as 's/h/it'. That's incredibly insulting.
---
Moreover, "you cannot write well in English without offending someone" comes off to me as "I'm not going try to reduce any unintentional insults when writing". What's the harm in trying to tweak your words so that others aren't offended?

(I want to be clear that I'm talking about a specific type of word choice-gender neutral words used to avoid misgendering anyone. I'm not talking about avoiding the use of "your imaginary sky daddy" when speaking with a creationist.)

Hi! Dipika Kadaba here. The drone is LESS than $1600. This is the unit http://www.udrones.com/product_p/acrtf2.htm.

$1600 includes shipping to me and my donor, indiegogo's cut, and tax. It is an extremely robust RC quadrotor copter than can be operated via remote control and also can fly through waypoints programmed using sophisticated open-source autopilot software (https://code.google.com/p/ardupilot-mega/wiki/Mission) - which further reduces costs. Current FAA rules makes flying the unmanned aerial vehicle WITHIN eyeshot and below a certain altitude mandatory. It's remarkably unscary with those rules. http://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/uas/.

'xe' does nothing for me. It seems quite contrived and artificial. It currently serves more to focus attention on the writer rather than to deemphasize gender or avoid gender mistakes. This is not a good candidate.

Singular 'they' has limited potential. It tends to sound stilted.

I have, on occasion, used 's/h/it' to convey my feelings about a person, but I'm going to adopt 'motherfucker' for that purpose.

Living at this time, I don't think that one can write well in English without out offending someone.

Given that, offend with style and gusto through intent rather than through carelessness.

'rupt. went to my first secular humanist gathering tonight. There were an equal number of men and women, all white though. All of them seem pretty progressive and feminist-friendly except for one woman who sounded a lot like she belonged in the pit.
Drones? *spits* Why, back in my day, we'd tie an onion on our belts and go out <i>walkin' around</i> in the desert looking for shit.

I know where a couple of kit-fox dens are too, or used to be. Twice I scared one out of a burrow from which I was ttrying to extract a tortoise. One night, sleeping on a cot, I awoke quietly enough to watch one check out my campsite for a few minutes. But, yeah, I also saw a couple DOR.

Think I'll help this young biologist out.

That's a pretty awesome proposal there, but I must confess to a blinkered financial reaction.

A drone that can be deployed for 2 months in desert territory by grad students only costs $1,600? Wow. I'm guessing it's a rental/lease agreement, but still... wow!

<blockquote>Well shoot. I thought I would come home and read what ChasCPeterson would have to say about how tear proteins and delivery mechanisms coincidentally arose by way of random DNA replication errors. Imagine my shock and disappointment when it wasn’t there.</blockquote>Whereas you need to show conclusive physical evidence for your imaginary deity. And I am not shocked that it never, ever happens. As it can't. Your deity/creator?/designer doesn't exist. You are too stupid, stubborn, and dishonest to admit that fact.<blockquote>I was hoping for something like Mark Isaak’s interesting outline on TalkOrigins about how bombardier beetles could have developed their peculiar talent, which he accomplished without mentioning mutations. But actually, that’s how evolution does it so easily.</blockquote>Gee, it all involves mutations. You are a mutant yourself. Think about that while you shut the fuck up permanently, after getting a case of honesty and integrity. Nah, your dishonesty goes all the way down....
