Theranos, soon to be a movie

If you’ve wondered about that spectacular flameout by Theranos, the blood testing company, but didn’t want to read all those articles all over the place, the story is now available in cartoon form.

Next, it’s going to be made into a movie with Jennifer Lawrence starring as the grand fraud, Elizabeth Holmes? Say, if I lie and endanger sick people and suck in a few billions from gullible investors, I want George Clooney to play me in the movie of my life.

It sounds like this isn’t a completed chapter yet, either, so there’s potential for a sequel every few years. If scandals and fraud like this is going to be the source material for all future movies, we can brace ourselves for such blockbusters as Fraud VII – Recess in Court and Woo CLV – Return of the Spoonbenders.*

    *Famous mostly for its record-breaking special-effects budget…

This is great, though. Instead of an oscar-bait Joy 2.0 movie, they can now make one about Holmes determinedly starting the company in hubris, ignoring warnings, pushing her chief scientist to the point of suicide . . . and then the exposure despite litigious attempts to cover it up, the downfall, the collapse, and finally the revocation of the laboratory license and the end of the dream. That could be a good movie.

It doesn’t finish there though. They are still trying to hawk their “minilab”, which they unveiled at the American Association of Clinical Chemistry conference in August after tricking them into thinking they were actually going to finally present scientific data (to the skepticism of many, probably most of the members), and pulling a bait and switch and not wanting to take questions about their Edison bullshit.

I truly believe that the chances of George Clooney agreeing to play you are about equal to a the chances of a movie being made about your life. So you got THAT going for you.
