Applause, applause. Hope they have many more happy days together.

  2. Menyambal says

Congratulations and the very best of wishes to the lovely couple and all the new family.

(The red and black looks great!)

  3. says

I should also mention that this was a secular ceremony, with a humanist celebrant. And the food is all vegan.

Which did make the elk head mounted above the fireplace a little bit incongruous.

  4. azpaul3 says

I may just have to break down into tears of anxiety. Or call it all off! Or hide in a closet!

Like you had any choice in the matter. At this point it’s out of your hands. You’re only along for the ride … and to pay the bills.

I only cried a little bit.

I should hope so. This is a very special, very emotional moment in the life of your little girl.

Congratulations to the happy couple and, most especially, to you.

    You did well, Dad!

  5. chigau (違う) says

The elk head contains a spy-cam.
They™ knew you veggies wouldn’t go near it.

  6. Tethys says

Awwwww, such happy faces. The red and black is quite stylish, thanks for sharing.

  7. Crip Dyke, Right Reverend Feminist FuckToy of Death & Her Handmaiden says

Best to you both, Skatje & Kyle, and some tenebrous, tentacular, dorsal-torso tele-tapotement. I hear you norse folk are into that sort of thing after one too many ales.

a secular ceremony, with a humanist celebrant. And the food is all vegan.

Awwwww. A wedding after my own heart.

    Kyle Hugheart

    Kyle Hugheart?

Hugheart??? D’aww, this wedding could sweeten lutefisk to edibility!

  8. Onamission5 says

Happy salutations to the adorable couple, and a box of tissues for dad.

  9. The Mellow Monkey says

Eeeeeeeeeeeeee. I love seeing people in love. ❤

Congratulations, Skatje and Kyle. And congratulations to all who got to share in their joy.

  10. blf says

The elk’s head is a traditional ward against Dwarves emerging from the fireplace and demanding the return the gold/jewels/…; Cave trolls also emerging from the fireplace and eating the reception; and Elks. Not very effective against Kraken, and I’ve no idea about Zebrafish.

So the happy couple are probably safe for the moment. Congratulations!

(On the other hand, I’ve no idea where the mildly deranged penguin is. Watch out for cheese, both incoming and (accompanied by penguin footprints on the cake and penguin-shaped holes in the wall) outgoing.)

  11. Lady Mondegreen says

    Congratulations, Skatje and Kyle!

I only cried a little bit.

    Awwww.

    Congrats to the lovely couple!

  16. says

Hugheart??? D’aww, this wedding could sweeten lutefisk to edibility!

It’s almost too much, isn’t it. Sounds like a character name from a silly movie. Still, he does look dapper.

    Anyway, congratulations!

  17. Ragutis says

Congratulations to the new couple! Doing grown-up stuffs like getting married and all, they probably don’t want to hear things like this, but:

    They’re adorable!

Also, congratulations to the parents! ( Just wipe/honk on your sleeve. The jacket’s already torn…)

Not to be too personal, but out of curiosity, PZ, how many zebrafish did you give up in dowry?

  18. opposablethumbs says

Congratulations, and best wishes for an Extremely Large Supply of happy days!

  19. Al Dente says

  21. Ray, rude-ass yankee "Bwaahahahaha!" says

Congratulations to the happy couple, and to the parents too! Seems like a good job all around. They do look adorable together.

I think, from the far side of 50 I’m allowed to say that to young people (as long as they stay off my lawn!)

Best wishes for many wonderful years together.

  22. mykroft says

    PZ,
Congratulations all around! I’m sure you’ll make an excellent grandpa, when the time comes!

Just remember, if the little Hughearts start talking about a CareBear® stare, run away!

  23. Georgia Sam says

Congratulations to the newlyweds, and best wishes for many happy years together!

  24. Morgan!? the Slithy Tove says

Huzzah! I wish you all the best of the best. It can get rocky out there at times, it is best if you have another rock climber along on the trek.
I was also going to say what carlie said, but she beat me to it.

  25. says

Awww, and awww again. Thanks for sharing the moment with us, PZ. That looks like a most excellent young couple, and not just because one of them if your progeny. Congratulations to Skatje and Kyle.

  26. Gregory Greenwood says

    Congratulations to the happy couple.

And to think that people doubted that a red and black wedding would work; they look fantastic.

  27. birgerjohansson says

(begins FOX-esque rant, looking for conspiracies)
-How come they did not get married on may 17, the Norwegian national day?
Have they got something against our NATO ally, huh?
blahblahmuslimsblah BENGHAZI! Invading Texas!!!! Kenyan usurper!

    :)

  28. birgerjohansson says

blf: “The elk’s head is a traditional ward against Dwarves emerging from the fireplace and demanding the return the gold/jewels/ ”

Watch out for the underpants gnomes!

  29. Marie the Bookwyrm says

    Congratulations to the happy couple!

Is the groom wearing an actual cravat? If so, cool! (I don’t keep up with fashion, so I have no idea if this is common nowadays. :D)

  30. says

Congratulations to both of them :) Having known Skatje a while and been on IRC with her and Kyol, I’m hoping they continue on just as they are but only grow in happiness over time. And I’m not sure if they want kids, but if they do I’m sure the spawn will be adorable <3

  31. stultus says

    PZed,
Congratulations. I wish them and you twice the happiness you hope for, and half the tears.

  32. theignored says

Congratulations. And I NOW see where the “red and black” theme came in…ok.

About the elk head, I figure every wedding ceremony should have one stashed away somewhere.

  34. says

I am so glad you were able to turn ownership of your daughter over to her new owner.

No, wait. I think I’ve been infected by Ophelia’s foray into that Biblical Gender Roles website. Their words are so persuasive that I almost forgot that I actually care about people.

Congrats to your daughter and her new husband. Wishing much happiness to all involved.

  35. elspeth says

Congratulations to all on getting through the day and the ceremony! In the youngsters’ case, doing it with amazing style, too. May you be as joyously together for the rest of the century as you are at this moment!

Also, AWWWWWWWWWWW. Using “far side of fifty” as an excuse for the sentimentality.

  36. thecalmone says

Hhhmmm… There’s a William Blake gag (echoed by Lawrence Durrell) which involves the line “the lineaments of gratified desire.”

  37. birgerjohansson says

I forgot to say congrats to the couple.

Secular weddings are OK. For non-secular weddings, look for a proper church of the aesir/vanir.

  38. llyris says

They look so happy. Congratulations to everybody. I hope they are happy together for many many years.

  39. yazikus says

Lovely! Congratulations. I may be a sap, but I love seeing a happy couple celebrating.

  40. Thumper: Who Presents Boxes Which Are Not Opened says

His name is Hughart? As in, Hug… heart? Aw :) it’s like a Care Bear name.

Congrats to Skatje and Kyle, and of course to daddy Poopyhead.

  41. FossilFishy (NOBODY, and proud of it!) says

Happy people being happy, causing happy tears! Hell yes, moar of this please.

Ms. Fishy and I were a couple for 6 years before we got married. If I’d know how much fun it was going to be I’d have done it sooner. I also didn’t know just how useful that day would become as the years have piled up on the other side of our wedding.

Life together isn’t always puppies and rainbows, but even before we got married I was prepared for that. The surprise came from just how effective my memory of that day is at smoothing out the bumps in our relationship. When I’m irritated and disinclined to charity towards Ms. Fishy it helps immensely to remember the full to bursting joy I felt as I wiped away her tears and put that ring on her finger. I might still be cranky, this is no panacea, but knowing without a shadow of a doubt that I can feel such an unblemished love, such a complete love for her, reminds me that that is a part of our relationship too. Annoyances come, and then they go, and from behind their shadow joy appears once again, just as my marriage day memories promised.

Congratulations Skatje and Kyle. I hope that you find strength and joy from this day for as long as you need it.
