Fascists thinking out of the box

Sometimes, you just can’t make this stuff up.

Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of France’s far-right Front National, has suggested the deadly virus Ebola could solve the global "population explosion" and by extension Europe’s "immigration problem".

Right. Unimaginable misery and agonizing death for millions of innocents, all to make a white man comfortable…and a white man so stupid he imagines a devastating plague would pass over all the good white French people like the Angel of Death meting out genocide to only those people he dislikes.

Wow. He’s so old now that he tells us what he really thinks.

so stupid he imagines a devastating plague would pass over all the good white French people

Well, it isn’t going to reach France in the first place. It kills so many of its victims so quickly that it hardly spreads. It stays in equatorial Africa, home of some of the people Le Pen is scared shitless of.

Seems like he might want to read the Poe story; “Masque of the Red Death”.

  3. Anthony K says

Does Nicholas Wade explain what it is about whites that make them so racist and genocidal? Seems like a cracker ain’t happy unless he’s warming up the ovens.

    @1

I don’t think he is scared shitless. I think he just profoundly despises black people.

  5. HolyPinkUnicorn says

Reminds of some of the vile things I’ve read uttered by the religious right during the earlier years of HIV/AIDS crisis. And equally as stupid, as they claimed that it was a gay-exclusive virus, somehow magically granting straights immunity simply by way of orientation.

So, by bigot medical logic, Ebola is smart enough to determine if you’re a swarthy immigrant–or possibly just thinking of immigrating to a majority white country–and AIDS has built-in gaydar.

  6. says

He’s an ugly racist who used to torture Algerian prisoners when he was a parachutist during the war, and who loves to crack jokes about gas chambers.

He’s stupid enough to actually believe that the Ebola virus only attacks Black people.

    And now, he’s senile.

But, fortunately, our collective honor is safe !
    You see, he’s not French.
    He’s Breton.

  7. says

Wait a minute… how could that solve Europe’s immigration problem? Because we do have a problem… We really need a lot of people to emigrate here to sustain our aging population.

Oh… ! Because people in Africa might be scared of the virus and we would welcome here? Maybe it could work (except for the “unimaginable misery and agonizing death for millions of innocents” of course).

Oof; I bet his daughter is unhappy now. She’s been trying to make the party look respectable, to some success.

I’ve always wondered, when the subject of weaponizing some disease comes up, how they expect the disease to tell which side a civilian populace is on. And what they plan to do, once it’s escaped into the wild. Don’t think it’d obey a memo recalling it to base…and don’t see what they could offer it by way of threat or inducement to only infect its intended targets.

    Just.
    Stupid.

when the subject of weaponizing some disease comes up, how they expect the disease to tell which side a civilian populace is on.

That’s why the only weaponized disease that has ever made sense was anthrax. Spores of the right size will kill humans quickly, but it won’t spread easily from human to human. Of course, you won’t want to send your own people into the area for quite a while and you sure as hell don’t want to graze cattle there.

Neutron bombs are much lower risk for similar effects.

It’s probably a good thing that right-wingers periodically say horrible, appalling things like this now and again. When they stay quiet, it’s easy to forget just how awful they are, and then they can win more elections and push their policies further.

It may be necessary, but the bureaucracy, the lack of employment, the racism and the high costs are serious impediments. For the moment, the ageing population is finding it hard to provide employment for some 3.6 million under-25s across the Eurozone.

  13. David Marjanović says

because he’s scared shitless, like all xenophobes: they’re coming after our jobs, our white Christian culture and our white women.

I’m sure you were being facetious but a lot a Bretons would take offense at this kind of joke (and at the reminder that Le Pen is Breton).

For the moment, the ageing population is finding it hard to provide employment for some 3.6 million under-25s across the Eurozone.

Granted but that’s hardly the fault of ze immigrants. There’s a lot going wrong in our societies, that’s for sure. I was just pointing out the bullshit of The Immigration Problem™

So the new-style totally not-racist legitimate-right party that is Front National has denounsed Le Pen, Right? Right? … crickets …

And the saddest thing, it will not affect their score at all. Scared? Yes, I’m scared, but not by those immigrants, but by the increasing wave of far-right votes all over Europe.

what an ignorant fool.! these days there is hardly anywhere that is not close to any other place given that jet airports are everywhere. In a broader sense Ebola would solve the over population problem pretty well as would a few others but none of them would likely recognize any racial characteristics anyone might prefer.
Didn’t Ebola already get out of its home range once?
The latest passenger to arrive via air transport is Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)

scottruplin @21, it was the plot of a Clancy novel, too. Except Clancy’s villains were tree huggers.

  20. says

so stupid he imagines a devastating plague would pass over all the good white French people like the Angel of Death meting out genocide to only those people he dislikes.

This is why I think biological weapons are generally a Very Bad Idea. People this stupid get elected far too often.

I’m reminded of a Babylon 5 episode, featuring a super soldier (or something) programmed by its creators to seek out and kill those considered genetically “impure” or “inferior” by vague standards. No points for guessing what it did to its creators.

I’ve played Plague, Inc., but even before playing, I knew what would happen if a disease was too deadly and killed people faster than it infected new victims. It’s happened to me plenty of times in-game. The challenge of playing the “Bioweapon” pathogen is that its lethality automatically goes up over time. Its special abilities include the option to decrease it by spending DNA points.

Once, on Pharyngula (I think) I asked a pathologist commentator what keeps ebola from going extinct this way and his answer was obvious in retrospect: It infects some animals without causing (as many) deadly symptoms, so the animals act as a reservoir.

  21. says

Ebola is always traced to a person handling an infected animal carcass. Even though the disease is easily spread, outbreaks are small because the infected become so sick so fast that they don’t have much chance to pass it on before it becomes obvious that special protective measures are called for.

Of course it’s conceivable that a mutated strain could let the infected remain symptom-free long enough to infect and wipe out substantial portions of whole countries, but while it was spreading it would have made it to France. Whoops.

For some reason I’ve reminded of Ronald Reagan and the trees of pollution. It seems to be a special kind of stupid that goes on the assumption that God has rigged the game so that me and my friends will always win.

Cracker? Is that like the little cat-lic cracker that needs dippin’ sauce to be palatable? Or a 19th century Georgia baseball player? Both are slightly weird.

  23. cactuswren says

I knew “survivalists” like this, back in the 1980s, who seemed to regard nuclear holocaust as a sort of Malthusian weedwhacker, that would conveniently eliminate only the excess and unfit: “Only the assholes,” as one put it after explaining that he’d survive easily himself by hiding out in storm sewers for two weeks.

  24. says

Between this guy and UKIP, it’s alarming to see so many people across the pond looking at the Tea Party and thinking they’re onto something.

  25. barnestormer says

    @ 29 Martin Wagner

Le Pen predates the Tea Party, but yeah, it’s alarming :(

  26. Pen says

he imagines a devastating plague would pass over all the good white French people like the Angel of Death

He’s probably being a nihilist who doesn’t give a fuck. He can’t get his way politically and he wants nature to take a hand. An American in the same situation would probably invoke the wrath of God, and you know when they’re doing it, they’re threatening the faithful with being collateral damage to the punishment of the main target. I think he’s saying something to the effect of ‘you bastards wouldn’t elect me and pass the laws I wanted to protect you with, so you’ve got this coming to you.’

  27. says

Like other members of the European far right his daughter has been cozying up to Putin. So while the Russian media goes on about Ukraine being overrun by fascists, Putin makes nice to neo-fascists elsewhere.

  28. D Carter says

Jean-Marie predates the Tea Party by decades. He’s now beyond caring. Forget him–but watch out for his daughter, she is talented, ambitious, and truly dangerous.

At least Venner had the decency to blow his brains out.

  29. rorschach says

If I was a betting man, I’d put a coin on MERS, not Ebola, to wipe out anyone from fat white fascists to nice little old ladies, in the next 50 years.

  30. Rich Woods says

    @cactuswren #28:

“Only the assholes,” as one put it after explaining that he’d survive easily himself by hiding out in storm sewers for two weeks.

As much as I like H G Wells, he’s not the authority to turn to when it comes to surviving the apocalypse.

That authority would be John Wyndham, obviously.

  31. Pen says

Hey, David Marjanovic, if you read this, what on earth makes you think Le Pen has it in for black people particularly? I’m sure he doesn’t want them, or too many white non-French people actually, but his usual target numero un is Muslim North Africans. Which makes sense, from his twisted point of view, because they’re far and away France’s moss populous immigrant group. And second on his list I think are ‘gypsies’ loosely defined as insufficiently French, compliant, and solvent white people.

Well, it would be, if their opponents didn’t often try to pretend they’re above it all, and refuse to remind people of these awful things at election time. These things should hang like an albatrosses around the necks of those who said them, or supported them, but all too often they’re simply allowed to be forgotten.

So the new-style totally not-racist legitimate-right party that is Front National has denounsed Le Pen, Right?

Just like our national foot-in-mouth Geert Wilders, who has been making nice with old Le Pen’s daughter, hoping to build up an anti-EU front in the European Parliament. Despite old Le Pen being a rabid anti-semite, and Geert Wilders being a good friend of Israel.

The cognitive dissonance would to me be more deadly than ebola and MERS put together, but Wilders does not budge.

BTW, be prepared for the ton of bricks to come down on you for the use of the ‘p’ word!

  36. opposablethumbs says

No need for any bricks, I think – just something like “hi Evan, nice to meet you, by the way please avoid gendered insults around here, thanks” (that’s actually an issue with insults based on innate qualities in general, really – splash damage, doncherknow. So, you know, things like shit-for-brains, shart-hat or the perennial favourites douchecanoe, shartface, fuckwit, arsehole etc. are all fine).
And yes, we all have our share of the Raving Right. Unfortunately. Anyone care to take UKIP off our hands, you’d be welcome …
