The diversity panel at CPAC

Look at their ties! It’s like a rainbow!

There’s more: here’s a photo of the audience they were talking to:

It’s Clint Eastwood writ large!

    And here’s their audience.

But no, Republicans aren’t racist. I’m sure they will get that chunk of the Hispanic vote they are after just fine.

Boehner and Trump would have counted as “people of color” here, no?

    Orange is a color, yes?

Now there’s a picture worth a thousand words.

    Here’s another one.

CPAC is just the gift that keeps on giving.

That was supposed to be another picture that is worth a thousand words, by the way!

I can’t quite put my finger on it but these guys have something in common…

It is subtle, but if you look at your hands, you can see the telltale signs:

All of these people have, at one point, put on the same set of diamond studded brass knuckles, and punched a small child, most likely an orphan that was paid a crisp $5 bill for their trouble.

That’s just the opening ceremony to CPAC, though. They really don’t have that much in common aside from that. Diversity!

Oh, and brown boots with a black suit? Just not the done thing old boy.

I’m surprised there is only one panelist with white hair. Maybe the rest are bottle jobs?

Sometimes it feels good to point and laugh.

Then I remember conservatism is still a powerful force.

You are a wicked, wicked person.
It is a privilege and an honour to be in your Horde.

Reminds me of Jen McCreight’s lecture on using social media at the 2013 Secular Student Alliance conference where there was an audience of only around 5 people. It happens, you just have to soldier on.

What has happened to Jen anyway?

Phew… when I saw the title I thought PZ might be referring to this:

But [Dwayne Carson]’s at CPAC as Executive Director of the Center for American Racial Equality (CARE), a minority org which he says is about “personal freedom, economic opportunity and the free market. We want to put the decisions in your hands. You know best how to manage yourself, your business and your kids better than the government does.”

    [...]

Should businesses be allowed to discriminate in the name of freedom? “They should be able to decide what or who they want,” said Carson. “If they don’t hire somebody because of their race, color, or creed, that organization will probably go out of business based on word of mouth alone.” What about if a business won’t serve people because of their race? “If they don’t serve people on that basis, some other organization is going to benefit from that. That’s the beauty of the free market. There’ll be another store or restaurant down the street that’ll say, ‘I will serve them. I Want their business.’ And the business that isn’t serving them will lose out.”

and then I was all relieved that this thread was just about the photo… <_<

The rest of the audience was undoubtedly too busy getting recruited by American Atheists! Or they were just smoking hundred dollar bills while trying to come up with new dogwhistle terms to insult teh minorities with. Maybe both!

She’s still around, but keeping a low profile. The harassment got to be a bit much.

Sorry to be, y’know, skeptical, but is there really any good reason to believe that the photo of the empty audotorium has anything to do with the photo of the panel?

    @ChasCPeterson (#22)
Would you consider apparent corroboration by a source that prides itself on “exposing & combating liberal media bias” to be “good reason,” Chas? I mean, maybe they’re just extra fucking terrible at their jobs, but I’d think if the second picture wasn’t legit, they’d rush to say so instead of whining about how most other panels were just as sparsely attended, so the poor showing at this one doesn’t mean anything.

No, but it’s funny, isn’t it?

I got the photo from this tweet repost from the Daily Kos http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/03/06/1282678/-The-GOP-s-problem-with-non-white-voters-in-one-awesome-picture?detail=email. (I’m not sure why PZ posted a link to the Daly Show.)

@18 Oh, humble apologies for my transgression, sir. Forgive me, but it has been a very long day and my thought processes may have been slightly impaired. What I meant to say was, Convention of the Insidiously Insane. :)

    @anteprepro #5:

    From your link:

Later, NRA President Wayne LaPierre fired up the crowd [...]

“In this uncertain world, surrounded by lies and corruption everywhere you look, there is no greater freedom than to survive and protect our families with all the rifles, shotguns and handguns we want”

Lies and corruption at a conservative conference? Surely not! Still, better to go armed than risk being shot by another attendee opening up on the CEO who offshored his job to India and the banker who foreclosed on his mortgage and the politician who wants to deny him welfare and/or the vote.

A few entered the wrong room but were too embarrassed to leave.

The rest were there to brainstorm solutions to our growing (but strangely elusive) reverse racism problem.

    Brave men, all of them!

No really, they were all men.

Who are the ties, and did any of them make a point other than “I would like to strangle the feck-for-brains wearing me?”

  31. 31

I assume the panels on the Restoration of Slavery and Blind Obedience to Me Me ME!!11! were better attended.

Hey, ignoring the ties, and starting from the left:
Number 1 is balding, and has gray hair.
Number 2 has dark hair and some sort of cowlick in front.
Number 3 is similar to 2 but has glasses.
Number 4 has graying temples and a lavender shirt. Perhaps he’s one of …. them!
Number 5 has the aforementioned brown boots and a vest/waistcoat.

    How diverse can you get?

  34. 34
    anteprepro

Number one believes we should get more poor people in the army and start a few new wars for them to die in.
Number two believes we should help the poor, but only through charity, and only if it is tax deductible.
Number three believes we should increase employment 1% so he can yell at the unemployed with more confidence.
Number four believes we should drown the poor in vats of battery acid.
Number five believes that welfare is inefficient but is a necessary evil. He was never seen or heard from again.

It’s not like this is the first time Republicans have failed to …oh, I don’t know… include people who have a stake in the subject under discussion.

Interestingly, the video of the panel on Youtube actually has…diversity. That makes me question where the all-white-guy picture came from.

There were still more tumbleweeds than spectators in the audience, but still…
