You’re going to make me work again, aren’t you?

Donations to the Light the Night Fundraiser are getting awfully close to the next landmark of $5000; we’re at $4748. Get there and I’m going to have to write a post about tumor suppressors, and I know you’re all just panting away with lust for that.

Then there’s a long stretch to $10K, so maybe I should add something at $7500. A post on micro RNAs and cancer, I think?

By the way, we’re getting matching funds from Todd Stiefel, who has now promised to get a red buzz-mohawk if we hit $20K. That’s a really long stretch, but if we make that, I’ll have to think of something even better. What is it with everyone doing exotic things to their hair? We’re supposed to be public intellectuals, shouldn’t we be doing weird things with our brains?

Yes, the brain-mohawk probably wouldn’t work out very well. But you could dye the brain instead, perhaps with a radiocontrast agent, and post a scan of the inevitably embarrassing (?) result.

I do exotic things with *no* hair? Wanna know what I do? I’m not tellin’; it’s way too exotic! But it’s all in my arrest record.

I’d like an enthusiastically positive post about cats, please.

Well, you were on $4,998 a minute ago, so I had to throw some money at you. Get cracking on the tumour suppressors!

Suggestion for a future post: I’d like to have an idea of where we’re at in the fight against cancer, and where we’re hoping to go. For example, are we still mainly attacking fast-replicating cells, or have we started to get traction specifically targeting the wayward processes that occur in tumour cells?

This. Something on cat evolution, perhaps. Accompanied by a picture of you holding a cat.

LoL. OK. Why don’t you pledge to discuss evolutionary psychology with 5 undergrad students from 5 universities and 5 fields after consuming 750 grams of vodka in 2 hours? For the 25k target?

That surely does something to everybody’s brain and keeps the dollars rolling.
