Mary’s Monday Metazoan: More charismatic megafauna?

Oh, no. The metazoan curator sent me this photo for this time around, and I groaned a bit: more big furries. I told her, “Where are the tubeworms, the crustaceans, the zooplankton? Why no jellyfish or echinoderms?” And she said, “But they’re so cute!” and gave me that look. That look that means I have to do as I’m told.

You know, if she starts sending me cats, I’m just gonna blow up. Me posting cats? That would be one of the signs of the End Times, along with the Last Trump and deluges of blood and whores riding dragons.

Baw. That takes me back – my mother used to work at a local wildlife park (we’re in South Oz) and she would occasionally bring home orphaned joeys, possums, wallabies, bettongs and the occasional koala that needed a couple of weeks of weaning (you think that shot’s cute, try bottle-feeding a baby ‘roo curled up in your arms!). They even had surrogate pouches – an old hessian feed bag lined with sheepskin and hooked up to an electric blanket, all mounted on an iron frame so the joey could hop in and out at will. My childhood had its moments :)

Awww – I agree totally with your keeper, er the metazoan curator. They are cute.
BTW, I hope that she does start sending you kitties to post. One can never have too many kitties.

Hmm, look at the claws. Bet those could rip you a new one. And the jaws are pretty prognathous. Sure, they look cute just to get you to come closer….

There’s a look that means you don’t have to do as you’re told?

“whores riding dragons”? And all we gotta do is send poopyhead some cats?

Ok, the mildly deranged penguin is loading up the trebuchet now…

“whores riding dragons”? This is a thing? Is that in the Babble somewhere?

I would totally become a whore if it meant I got to ride a dragon.

Those claws look nasty but they’re only for digging. In fact, wombats are one of
the few Australian creatures that won’t kill you out of malice, although they have
been known to kill out of indifference..
