Stalker!

It’s like she’s following me everywhere. Stephanie has a summary of upcoming conferences, and I seem to be at all of them.

This year I have resolved to NOT write a whole new talk for every event I go to, because it was killing me*, so she’s probably going to skip my sessions at least a few times.

*Also, somehow, over the last few years I’ve ended up developing and teaching a brand new course every year, and this coming term is no exception (at least it’s a core course with a long history, but I still am new to teaching it). There’s nothing quite like having to compose three or four new lectures every week for my job and, oh, by the way, do another one for fun for the weekend.

Wow! I’m really impressed that you have managed such a volume of blog posts whilst simulataneous being at a conference somewhere in the world (seemingly) every week *and* doing new course preps every year. I decided to start a blog recently on the grounds that I didn’t have new course preps and therefore may actually have time to write. I would say “please share your secret”, but I expect the ‘secret’ is hard, efficient work…

    Oh, woe is thee.

My best friend, the lecturer at the bottom of the totem pole at the university department where she teaches, has just been bumped out of her fall course by a full professor in need of one more course to bulk up his teaching load. She won’t suffer unduly — she mostly lives off her husband and teaches because she loves it — but Professor Bumper is going to have some rough slogging ahead of him; he hasn’t taught the course in years, and the subject matter (Earthquakes and Volcanoes) only engages the students if you talk about real, recent, events. So it goes.
