Hello, Washington DC and CFI!

I’m going to be doing a bit of traveling again starting in August. I’ll be in Washington DC on the 18th, to do a fundraiser lunch for CFI-DC, and I’ll also be doing a talk later that afternoon. The talk title is “Life is Chemistry“, and I’ll be explaining why material causes are sufficient to explain this phenomenon we call life — no ghosts, spirits, souls, or magic Frankensteins in the sky to make it all happen.

Sign up for tickets now! Last time I was there they sold out.

I like the idea of a Magic Frankenstein being responsible for life, and that Frankenstein of course being made up of parts of no-longer-living things. Those no-longer-living things would have had to have been created by a previous Magic Frankenstein, who was made up of earlier, no-longer-living things. How wonderfully recursive!

Turtles all the way down? Close.

    It’s actually just their Shelleys.

Yes, of course. Irregardless, who made the doctor?

You have a lot to learn about theology, chigau.

No, I don’t. And you can’t make me.

    On topic.
For a $60 lunch, I’d expect PZ to serve me himself ;)

Like the cow from the Restaurant at the End of the Universe?

“And here you are, Chigau, a nice cut of my own haunch in peppercorn sauce, medium-rare. Be sure to save room for dessert: today I’m serving a nice cobbler, seasoned with bits from my own—on second thought, I don’t recommend the dessert. It’s gross.”

    [Limps away.]

FYI: The lunch is at one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The food is amazing. Plus, it’s a fundraiser. However, I do expect PZ to twirl my pasta around my fork for me.
