    The word “cartoon” originally referred to a pencil sketch outlining figures on a canvas to guide the artist in applying paint.

    So what word can we use to describe a sketch used to outline the first draft of … a cartoon?

    In the thread below on the New Testament, you mentioned a Yale course available through iTunes. You might also be interested in Paul Freedman’s Early Middle Ages course. I just finished it and enjoyed it very much. Of relevance to this blog, he covers the various heresies of the late Roman and early Byzantine period extensively.

    By the way — do you know a free software called “Pencil”? Pencil is an animation/drawing software which lets you create traditional hand-drawn animation (cartoon) using both bitmap and vector graphics. Pencil is free and open source.
