OK here’s another first of a kind.
There are lots of blogs that share and present the newest and best atheisticish movies that come out on youtube as soon as they’re up… That’s great, I benefit from that all the time, for my own videos and for finding good stuff from channels I haven’t seen before. But, just because a video was produced a few years back doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant to today’s discussion or ought to be left gathering dust.
So, I’m occasionally going to present videos that aren’t new, perhaps even from people who aren’t active on youtube any longer, but which I think still make a good point that ought to be heard. It’s not quite ‘back to basics’, – but I often feel good to be reminded of the things that got me interested in this debate, rather than constantly seeing if I can find new ways to present new aspects of it for a culture that always wants something NEW!
Here’s one from a great channel (eequalsfb) that I’ve been subbed to since 2008. He commented here the other day, which reminded me of this idea I had for the blog.
Don’t forget, if you dig it, let HIM know on the comments section of the vid ON YOUTUBE (as opposed to here). That way he’ll get them all, & might make more vids!

Loved your video. It echoed so many of the points I make in my book (check website), and which I keep having to make in public presentations or in TV docs I produce: God created imperfect humans, and then wants to punish them for failing to achieve the moral perfection that HE failed to conjure up. Maybe he should have worked on that seventh day.

The answer to PJ’s question at the end of the video is simple – compartmentalization allows one to believe almost anything.
We all do it to some degree. We all have some beliefs which we hold to that are less than scientifically proven, but we’re comfortable with anyway. Most of them, even religious ones, do not affect our ability to empathize with our fellow man. It is the beliefs that reduce our capacity for empathy that are dangerous, and unfortunately, most religions have at least one big one: hell. If a person can countenance a purported infinitely merciful God damning another human being to hell, and he has no problem with that, then his capacity for normal human empathy has been compromised.
To those who believe in hell, I ask you to try to remember back to when you were first told about it. Did your mind not immediately rebel at the horrific injustice of infinite punishment for finite sins? Did you object only to be rebuked and have it hammered into you until you gave in. Didn’t it take a little bit of extortion to make you submit? Something along the lines of: if you don’t believe this, it can only be because you want to sin; and so you will go to hell if you don’t believe in hell. Wasn’t it a horrible experience to be in no position to resist such mental coercion? Now ask yourself, as an adult, don’t you owe it to yourself, and to basic human decency, to correct that wrong, and reject that most odious of concepts? Or are you so far gone that you believe some people deserve hell, and the only one qualified to determine exactly who should go there is God, and somehow that God is also infinitely merciful?
Humans will never stop compartmentalizing, and I couldn’t care less if Romney wants to compartmentalize his magic underwear, but if we can just get rid of hell there will be much less religiously justified lack of empathy to compartmentalize. That would be an unqualified good.

I don’t see an email on the blog that I can write to. Is there a way to send a suggestion privately? It’s in regard to this topic.

This is a great idea, a video like this holds up just fine, so the fact that it isn’t brand new doesn’t take anything away from it. It’s not like the ideas that we have to counter from Christians undergo any massive changes.

I used to watch his vids before I used my channel features and the subscribe button. I just subscribed in hopes it encourages more videos in time.
But I don’t think this god wants to hear his failings and be pointed out to be hypocritical. It’s like a forum member that argues a wrongful point for several posts and gets beaten down every time. He leaves and doesn’t come back again, maybe trying his poor logic on another forum in some corner of the Internet.
Makes me think how some poor reticulans have had to put up with this troll since Yahweh gave up on Earth a couple of millenia ago with his last crappy argument. It might have worked on some of them and may explain why they’re so obsessed with abducting us and experimenting on our junk; trying to find out exactly why he thinks our foreskins are so important.

Hey, NSC! Thanks for the love. I was very pleasantly surprised to see this entry. It is nice to get recognition from someone as clever and talented as yourself.
I may have a few videos left in me, in the future, on this topic. I am certainly still watching and commenting. Thanks, mate!

The thing is, if you’re a divine command godite, then what god does is by definition good, and so being a murderous, hypocritical bastard is good if you’re god. Sort of like in Islam, where Mohamed killed and raped without shame, but because he was god’s chosen prophet, it was good. But don’t you do it!
If you’re not a divine command godite, then it’s a mystery, and we aren’t able to understand god’s way. And possibly free will. But god s good!

I haven’t really thought about divine command theory before, but it seems to be just the extreme version of might makes right. I reject this definition of ‘good’ or ‘moral’. Anyone who says something is moral because the most powerful being in existence said so clearly isn’t using the word ‘moral’ in the same way I do.

“If your god is all-knowing, then he’s never had to believe anything without evidence in his life!”
The unfortunate problem with arguing agaisnt an all powerful and all knowing god is you can make up practically anything to defend him/her. Since he is all knowing, of course he would know how it feels to believe without evidence! The only way to get around this is with logic problems, such as “Can god make a mountain so heavy that he can’t lift, etc….”

God’s hypocrisy rubs off on the faithful too; they tell us that It will keep them from harm because they pray to It and It loves them for it, then they go and stick copper lightening conductors on their churches because they actually don’t trust It not to accidentally frazzle them.

Good I should certainly pronounce, impressed with your web site. I had no trouble navigating through all the tabs and related information ended up being truly easy to do to access. I recently found what I hoped for before you know it at all. Reasonably unusual. Is likely to appreciate it for those who add forums or anything, web site theme . a tones way for your customer to communicate. Nice task..

I remember a tiny story related to fishing when I was a little girl. It was in rainy season and it rained for almost everyday. I was visiting my relatives who lived quite far from the city, a suburb area, actually. In front of the house, there was a strange dry long canal and a wooden small bridge. I have always wondered what it was for and then, after a few days of constant raining that I realized “ahhh… now it is a actually a water-filled canal!” It was for fishing. It was such an amazing experience for me to go fishing in such a small stream of water! I mean, where did the fish come from? Was the canal connected to any river? Even there were many questions in my head, I did not ask. I just went with the flow, sit on the wooden bridge, holding the old-fashioned fishing equipment which was an old long piece of bamboo stick, hooked with a worm as a bait. There were 5of us, my brother and I, cousins and my daddy. He taught us how to do the fishing. It was quite boring at first but suddenly, my cousin screamed out loud with joy and said “I got one! I got a fish!”. My eyes were wide opened to see a fish hooked up. I was not happy, though. It seems like I was hurting the fish and the fish does not deserve this. So, I asked my dad if we could let it go back to the water and he agreed. Hence, we just sit there playing around, fishing and letting the fish back into where it was. It was a great day, though. I am also finding a place to start this joyful activity, too and waiting for the answers from other people just like Mister ambassador. Thank you for reading my childhood story. It is kind of childish but it was so much fun and I just wanted to share. Thanks again,

Hi Guys,
You tell us what ANP stands for, several times, but you are silent about RVCA, and VA. I love the VA logo, but I would be stupid to wear a logo of initials, that I DON’T KNOW what they stand for. That would be silly. Tell me, and I will probably buy some of your stuff. But, I don’t want to be a “Virgin Ass”, or have “Vaginal Anxiety”. You know?
So, can you please tell me what your mystery acronyms stand for?
Thanks.

If the top two teams in the four team playoff are that good, I have no problem with it no matter what conference they’re from. If a four team playoff had been in place this year, ND would not have been there. Yes, eight would be better, but four is a start.
