We are behind you

The UCL Atheist president has resigned. To those who have resigned and the ones who will take their places: Don’t worry. Don’t be afraid. We are behind you and we aim to win… As an aside, the UCL Union said in a statement: ‘The atheist society has agreed they will take more consideration when drawing …

It’s not just about you or Jesus and Mo

Recently, there have been a number of high profile attacks on free expression by Islamists often supported by educational institutions and others. What I find most absurd about it all is how the fundamental debate on Islam and free expression has become framed within a context of offence, racism and discrimination. What has happened here …

That is better

Do you remember I posted a link to the Islamic Diversity Centre team where the women were all represented by one photo of the same woman in a niqab with only her eyes showing. Well, they have now removed the photo for the women on their team altogether. Much better! (Via Anne Marie Waters)

If it’s alright with the Guardian, we won’t welcome Islamism

You have to love the Guardian. They never waiver from defending political Islam every which way they can. They have published yet another article on why we should support Islamism in the Middle East. Wadah Khanfar, the director general of al-Jazeera tells us that Islamism is just Muslims involved in the public sphere. To me …

They finally killed writer Rafiq Tagi

In 2006, Ayatollah Lankarani issued a death fatwa against Azerbaijani writer Rafiq Tagi for his writings. In 2007, a Baku court sentenced him to three years in jail for criticising Islam and Islam’s prophet Muhammad. He was pardoned and released later that year. But now they have finally killed him.

As a follow up to the photo of Israeli women who stripped in solidarity with Egyptian blogger Aliaa Magda Elmahdy, why not make a calendar of Nude Photo Revolutionaries in homage to Aliaa and also to raise awareness on free …

Nude photo of Egyptian blogger is a scream against Islamism

Student, atheist and blogger, Aliaa Magda Elmahdy, 20, posted naked pictures of herself on her blog to show her “screams against a society of violence, racism, sexism, sexual harassment and hypocrisy”. Showing her body particularly at a time when Islamists in Egypt are trying to secure power is the ultimate act of rebellion. Don’t forget …

The far-Right and Islamism: Two sides of one coin

The Norwegian far-Right extremist Anders Behring Brevik who murdered 77 people in cold-blood in July had his first public hearing today. As I’ve said before whilst the far-Right targets Islamism, they are both two sides of the same coin.

Simplicity is killing us…

In September 2011, I spoke at a meeting on Sharia law in Copenhagen, Denmark organised by the Danish atheists. The discussion was on sharia law but as in most talks on the issue, I also dealt extensively with the far-Right, the racist scapegoating and blaming of immigrants and Muslims for the crimes of Islamism and …

When the Hezbollah Came to my School: Why I Became an Atheist

For those of you who don’t know much about my background and why I became an atheist, my piece in 50 Voices of Disbelief: Why we are Atheists may be an interesting read. It’s the first time I have published it on my blog below: I don’t remember exactly when I stopped being a Muslim. …
