You know the people to people solidarity I keep harping on when I’m asked what one can do to intevene?
I always tell people to stop thinking they represent ‘their’ government and to think beyond the given box of ‘security’ and ‘stability’ and instead see that how their interests lie intrinsically with people in Iran and elsewhere.
Well, here’s a brilliant example of this:
Right back at you!

Since there seems to be so much “dislike” on both sides of the atheist issue, this might be one way to bring the two sides together – or at least decrease the “dislike”.

I keep arguing that as a species we are altrusitc by nature.
Despite the shit that has been thrown at us to devide, man made concepts, such as nationality, religion, etc, we are still here, still communicating, still reaching out to each other.
This video is a perfect example of this.
Now, I just have to get hold of one of those ‘Iranians, we will never bomb your country. We love you’ posters for my window.

Freakin’ gorgeous! The internets have been on a major WIN streak this past year.
The recent awfulness in Florida
Jessica Alquist vs.the Cranston goons
The Komen affair
The Va. Legislature’s manditory-sonogram sslapdown
multitudes of amnesty efforts
and now, the above story.
This is gonna get huge (I predict). I’ve been called overly optimistic about the power of the internet, but methinks I’m being proven right. And a couple of other ponderances
1. These viral phenomena show that there are more awesome people in the world than assholes. The assholes on the internet are relegated to throwing nothing more than impotent toddler tantrums.
2. The internet is essentially a liberal engine. It has become primarily about connecting to other people and ideas. It will never appeal totally to people who are interested in neither.

Wow, yes, this! We love you too.
Many people must think in these terms, but it is entirely foreign to me. Security and stability are mostly theater anyway, and other people’s bad paranoid decisions in terms of governments.
I think it would also help to not assume that any other person particularly represents ‘their’ government by default as well.

What a heartwarming and inspiring video. Thank you for posting it. It should give us some ideas on how to foster solidarity among Chilean, Peruvians and Bolivians, who still regard each other as enemies because of a war waged 150 years ago.
