NZ MP delivers great speech in support of gay marriage

New Zealand has legalized gay marriage, and MP Maurice Williamson delivered this bang-up speech to mark the occasion and express his feelings about gay marriage in general, and the opposition to gay marriage in specific. Well said.

My life in upheaval, but in a good way

In February 2010, Jodi and I got married. In June, we spent our honeymoon in Minnesota, going to CONvergence in Minneapolis. (My wife is every bit as much a geek as me.) Little did I know that that visit would plant the seeds for what’s been happening over the past few months in my life.

Pastor brings wrong notes to gay marriage ordinance hearing

Whoopsy. His face must be red. You’ll want to watch this twice. Best damn thing I’ve seen all day. Via that one site you can’t post on Reddit any more because free speech.

Mitt Romney to openly campaign on constitutional amendment against gay marriage

Okay, so if this is something you can do, if this sort of thing is actually politically viable, how’s about Obama openly campaign on a constitutional amendment mandating that gay marriages be legal nationwide?

Why my initial thoughts on the Obama gay marriage announcement are wrong

Yesterday, Barack Obama declared that his position on gay marriage has evolved, and where once he thought civil unions were sufficient, he’s decided, rightly, that they are not, and has made possibly the clearest and most supportive statement on the matter that any president has ever made. Barber/Staver: Dan Savage poisoning kids against “believers in normal sexuality”

Women marrying their rapists: the “perfect solution”?

What a strange few days it’s been for me. It’s 25°C today, and it’s been about that for the past several days. And all the while, while sweating and cursing the unnatural heat, I’ve been working crazy hours and basically ignoring the goings-on on the intertubes. I honestly feel something like one of those Sims …

You can change their minds. You can win them over.

A Maryland Republican has done the unthinkable. He has gone from supporting those odious marriage-as-one-man-one-woman acts to opposing them practically overnight. Why? He met some gay couples, and learned they’re human beings. In an effort to get the bill to the House floor, a special joint committee was formed and legislators were left scrambling for …

Betty Bowers on Traditional Christian Marriage

Yup, pretty much spot on. Considering the full-throated Republican and evangelical assault on gay marriage claiming that “traditional marriage” is between one man and one woman, Betty Bowers, “America’s Best Christian”, goes back to the source materials to show that the common conception of traditional marriage is one that is very much at odds with …

Gay marriage doesn’t threaten our marriage

Photo of Derek and Tessie Forgie, holding a sign reading 'Gay marriage doesn't threaten our marriage.'

I’m reblogging a post in full by an esteemed fellow Canuck, George Waye, who has asked for help in spreading the word on this laudable cause. I’d like you to meet Derek Forgie.  I’ve known Derek for almost twenty years- we were both involved in the arts community here in North Bay for many years …
