Invisible Children #Kony2012 filmmaker detained for masturbating in public

No idea whether he was on something or had a nervous breakdown or what, but apparently this is, um, a bit out of character for Jason Russell. The San Diego police department has taken him to a medical facility after he apparently went something close to crazy in public. Specifically, via NBC:

Jason Russell, 33, was allegedly found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something, according to Lt. Andra Brown. He was detained at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Riviera Road.

Brown said Russell was acting very strange.

“Due to the nature of the detention, he was not arrested,” she said at a press conference. “During the evaluation we learned we probably needed to take him to a medical facility because of statements he was saying.”

Police said they received several calls Thursday at 11:30 a.m. of a man in various stages of undress, running through traffic and screaming.

Police described Russell as “in his underwear.” He allegedly took off his underwear at one point, but it was back on by the time officers arrived, said Lt. Brown.

In case you missed it, here’s my full take on the Kony situation. It’s more complicated than the viral video, which raked in at least $15 mil for Russell and Invisible Children, might lead you to believe. And now, almost certainly, this strange behaviour is bound to raise questions about the organization, the fundraiser, and maybe even the viral video itself. To be sure, Joseph Kony is a bad person and his Lord’s Resistance Army should be stopped. This incident, like with the Wikileaks and Julian Assange rape trial, should be taken separately — surely Russell’s behaviour is atypical enough that it should not reflect on the Stop Kony movement unless evidence is forthcoming that there is any sort of link.

In the news articles about this incident, I also learned that this guy wants to have 11 children (with zero mention of adoption). WTF.

His official profile at http://www.invisiblechildren.com/our-team.html :

Jason “Radical” Russell is a co-founder of Invisible Children, as well as our grand storyteller and dreamer. His sparks of creative intelligence and insanity have propelled IC to redefine the concept of humanitarian work, offering new life to old hope. A filmmaker by trade, Jason graduated from the University of Southern California’s film school with a degree in Cinema Production. He admires Oprah, Bono, Steven Spielberg, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Baz Luhrmann, and Dan Eldon and believes wholeheartedly in magic and the impossible. Already a proud papa to Gavin Danger and Everley Darling, Jason wants to have nine more children with his beautiful wife Danica‚ the girl who has been his best friend for over 23 years.

The KONY movement is propaganda to create more public impatus for the invasion of Africa in the form of “grass roots activism”. Kony hasn’t been seen in over five years. The Ugandan dictator Idi Imin is well documented to have killed over 5 million people. This invasion is truly about untapped resources in the TRILLIONS (among control of African countries that are now trying to get on their feet and out from under debt). Listen to this Ugandan’s take if your skepticism prevents you from doing your own research:
