I have this irrational penchant for assuming we humans will, eventually, let our better angels of empathy and rationality win out in the long run. This plays to that aspect of my psychology.
Of course, there are so many other reasons not to vote for Republicans that you don’t need to point out the fact that it’s been completely and thoroughly awash in scientific denialism for decades and fix that alone to get me to consider them rational actors on the political stage. You’d also have to untie them from religious zelaotry and magical thinking about economic factors and war hawkishness… et cetera, et cetera.

And Stephen Colbert got more votes than Huntsman.
Colbert might win the nomination if he keeps this up.

Well, jeez when you put it like that…
Why do you have to be so mean about the Republicans, Jason?

Yeah. I betcha if you said something real nice about Stephen Harper he and the rest of the conservatives would cross the floor and Olivia Chow would be PM.

Let’s test that.
Stephen Harper has very nice hair and excellent diction.

Maybe it just takes a little more time.

I see the global warming thing being used as a way for the government to impose for tyranny and control more of our behavior. The EPA is already destroying trucking companies in California for reasons they can never really define.
I think one doesn’t have to necessarily deny global warming, but they can deny that it is coming from our carbon emissions without being ridiculed.

What, as opposed to the PATRIOT act, TSA security theatre, secret renditions and in general getting ‘W’ re-elected because it would be “unpatriotic” to vote out a sitting president during a war (on terror no less)? It seems to me that there are a lot easier ways to control the people than using valid science; making up WMDs, for example.

Do you think the Global Warming Fairy waves his magic wand and the atmosphere just warms up?
