How-to guide for male supremacists: give women acid baths

Via The Guardian (disturbing photos on the landing page):

Seventeen-year-old Neela Khatunis is one of more than 2,700 victims of acid attacks in Bangladesh over the past 10 years. ‘My husband was angry … because he claimed a dowry but my family couldn’t provide one,’ she says. ‘His plan was to sell me in Saudi Arabia – when I refused he threw acid on me then he fled’

Putting the headline image below the fold because, well, FUCK. More text, too.

Neela’s story ain’t unique, either. Elsewhere in the photo gallery:

Nurun Nahar, 31, works in women’s rights at ActionAid Bangladesh. She is also an acid survivor, attacked when she was 15 because she rejected a local schoolboy’s advances. With help from ActionAid, she founded the ASN

Acid throwing is a common form of domestic violence worldwide. It is most often committed using hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, both of which can cause permanent damage with even limited exposure. Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is working on a documentary entitled Saving Face, documenting a UK surgeon who travelled to Pakistan to repair women’s faces after acid attacks.

This kind of thing happens far too frequently in the Middle East, and has even been imported to American soil proving just how creative one can be in keeping the wimmenz in line by inculcating a climate wherein either you accede to men’s demands or you are scarred for life. Those of you fighting for your right to call women cunts anonymously online — you’re evidently doing it wrong.

Sulfuric acid in the face was a Mafia tactic (against men, I think) back in the 1950’s in the USA. Bizarre that it’s back in the hands of different thugs.

While I am sure many North Americans who spew misogynist vitriol online would not, under the current prevailing social paradigm, throw acid at women (at least not real acid – just the verbal/written equivalent), I would not be surprised that for some individuals all it would take is a shift in the prevailing social paradigm for them to start.

To be fair, I suppose an ongoing desire not to be like another set of “Them” might also prevent such behaviour. Although that’s not saying much.

Fanciful conjecture on my part though.

Last year, a beauty queen contestant in Colombia was attacked with acid:

I then researched further and realized that this occurred much more often than I thought in Colombia. The following article details acid attacks on women by the partners they are trying to leave, as well as the rape of famed journalist which has gone unpunished despite ample evidence:

What’s the matter? Tired of throwing rape derivative demonizations at the drop of a hat? Is “acid thrower” the new “rape apologist”?

You probably more deserving of the “cunt” moniker than any woman.

No, in fact, I said “you’re doing it wrong”. Since your goal is the suppression of the women’s rights movement, you are in fact far outpaced in putting down those uppity women by the people throwing acid. I’m suggesting you should take hints, because calling people “Jason Bieber” or “cunt” just goes to show how utterly ineffective you or your ilk actually are.

I would welcome you showing a time where I called someone a rape apologist who was not, in actuality, providing apologetics for rapists’ tactics. Please, there are dozens of posts with the rape tag (see the cloud on the right). Feel free to find one that actually calls someone — e.g., an actual person — a rape apologist who was not excusing a rapist tactic. Surely if I’m doing it at the drop of a hat, that should be an easy enough task.

You howler monkeys make me laugh.

Wow. If supporting a woman’s right not to live in fear of having acid thrown on her for having the audacity to tell a man what she thinks makes Jason a “cunt,” then sign me up. I’m a “cunt,” too.

Fuck you, msironen. Fuck you and every other human on the planet who thinks that way.
