Huckabee wishes Americans were converted to Christianity at gunpoint

How else can you interpret this “joke” about David Barton’s communicating about religion? And this from a crowd that’s convinced — CONVINCED — that educating children about science is, in effect, indoctrination.

Stephanie Zvan comments extensively on the matter. And this Huckabee character is one of your more serious contenders for President!

“In politics, as in religion, it is equally absurd to aim at making proselytes by fire and sword. Heresies in either can rarely be cured by persecution.”
some guy who never amounted to anything important in his life

Hmm. There’s an election coming up. I oughtta ignore American politics for a bit and focus on Canadian politics, given how short our election cycles are, huh?

It doesn’t really sound all that much different than the crap I used to hear at Reform Party rallies when I was a young Reformer. And remember, those people make up the base of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Watch the crazies come climbing out of the woodwork if Harper gets his majority this election.

I think he’s joking about the gunpoint thing. What is alarming is that he supports Barton’s blatant historical revisionism — well, Barton’s fraudulent and dishonest abuse of history to further a nutty hand hateful right-wing agenda.

Is there really an election going on in Canada?
I have a major case of the “I don’t give a rats ass”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a political nut, but it’s hard to get worked up when we are looking at another Conservative minority, or at best, a Liberal one.
I’ll vote Green, like I do every election since I found out we are on a long ride off a short pier. Yet once again mine will be a “protest vote”, hardly worth the paper it’s written on. How many trees die every two and a half years or so for the sole purpose of giving us the illusion of democracy?

Also, is there a longer version of this video? I mean, “We all know the horror stories about what’s inside history textbooks” is a fantastic teaser for what clusterfucks await someone who listens to the whole address.
Huckabee comes off so nice and normal on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, but he is far from nice and far from normal.

If a Liberal minority is “at best”, why not work toward it, by throwing your vote their way? Lesser of two evils sort of thing. Anything to hand Harper his just desserts for the games he’s been playing.

I’m not sure if there’s an uncut video. I’d imagine so. But frankly, I’m too busy between work and my latest project, hacking Mediatomb to work with Youtube again (and with me not knowing a damn thing about C++ to boot!), to go out looking for more words by a fundie nutbag. I’ll get enough of that when I can see my Youtube subscriptions on the PS3.

I keep meaning to go find it and forgetting, but there is a video of the rest of Huckabee’s speech, available from the group he was speaking to. Their version, however, leaves this bit out.

I published a post yesterday that explains why I am not voting Liberal in the election, though I hope they do win. I reluctantly support strategic voting, though I think that it is a shame. What re really need is a democracy that allows us to get the government we want, not avoid the one we don’t.
