Are you outraged yet? Are you outraged that we are so lustful for oil that we’re willing to destroy the environment in its pursuit, and so greedy for profits that we aren’t investing in mitigating technologies? Are you outraged that we’re totally fucking up the response, because nobody has ever forced our oil companies to take this issue seriously?

Well of course BP is doing anything they can to plug the wellhead leak but they don’t give a flying fuck about the oil already in the water. The lost oil doesn’t cost them anything. Dead birds, turtles, and other sealife cost nothing. However, every barrel of oil that pours out of that hole costs them another $70+.

At 39 million barrels of oil lost to date, they’ve already essentially poured $2.7 billion dollars into the waters of the Gulf. Why would they bother putting MORE money into it?

BP is a corporation, with no concern to anybody but its shareholders – why should we expect BP to do anything to clean up its own messes, unless forced to? Look at how the general public is reacting to the oil spill: shrugged shoulders and a “whaddaya gonna do” expression on their faces. You don’t have hordes of people calling or storming government offices to force oil companies to do something about this.

BP is going to get away with this. Nothing is going to happen to them.
