As most of you know we’re doing a mild ‘steampunk’ theme for our wedding outfits because it’s fun and different. So for our favors we decided to keep to that theme and go with one of the victorian eras favorite past-times……. poisoning!
Some time ago I found some scans of genuine victorian poison labels that I thought were awesome. We decided we would print them onto sticker paper, then attach them to some small bottles of some sort and fill them with booze to give away as favors 🙂
Here are some pics of the finished result, I’m so pleased with them!!
(Sorry about the time stamps, my camera needs to have it’s batteries removed because it is a battery hog so the time never stays correct.) Click to embiggen.
Jason working on the last step, filling the vials.
Checking for leaks…
And of course, when all is said and done, drink the left over booze poison! 😀
(He survived btw, he’s built up an immunity over the years.)
LOLing over the last line. 🙂
For the complete moron among us, could you explain ‘steampunk’? Or should we just get off our asses and google?
Steampunk is an imaginary “alternate universe” where, in the Victorian era, the “high technology” we have today (or some future-tech) was able to be built using the steam-based technologies of the time. Giant steam-powered robots, calculating machines, Victorian-looking laser guns and such. It’s a combination of the romance and the aesthetic of the 18th century with all the same sci-fi tropes we have today. Everything’s brass and cherry-wood and leather, cogs and gears and steam-valves. We’ve toned down the “steampunk” part of it for the wedding, focusing mostly on the Victorian-ish concepts and look. But when we reuse the same outfits for CONvergence, you can bet we’ll be doing steampunk upgrades.
If you’re any sort of geek, you would love Datamancer for the custom case-mods (and much, much more complicated!) that he’s done.
Very clever idea and thanks for the much more concise explanation of steampunk.
I found myself on wiki, but yours leaves me with a much better idea of what your wedding will look like. We’re looking forward to the pictures 🙂
i love this idea for favors…i am having a steampunk/victorian wedding in feb 2011 and i was wondering where you found the poison symbols
