How it all began…

Jason and I met at a call center. I was a newly hired techy and he was the IT manager. I didn’t expect to meet anyone at that job, I had just followed my friend Sara there because the money was good and I was fairly decent with computers. Things soon changed however when he hooked me with the most clichéd line in the book: “Don’t I know you from somewhere?”

Fast forward two and a half years and now we’re engaged. I had decided that since we already owned a house together, getting married was the next logical step, and frankly I was tired of having to describe each other as ‘girlfriend’ and ‘boyfriend’. It’s a small, and possibly trivial thing, but I just want to be able to say ‘husband’. So about a month ago I made up my mind to ask Jason to marry me, I just wasn’t sure how I was going to do it. Right away though I knew it had to be geeky, something that would make him happy most of all, and that left me trying to think of something very non-traditional. After a bit of deliberation I decided that to make it really good, I simply must involve his favourite bloggers/atheists/skeptics, but how?

I thought about it for weeks, and around the same time Jason slowly but surely started to interact more and more with these blogging heroes of his. In particular we both really took to Stephanie Zvan of Almost Diamonds. Then one day it occurred to me, what if Stephanie helped me? She had been blogging a long time, and I had never, so I emailed her for some advice and ideas on how I could go about doing this. Much to my delight she was thrilled to help out AND she had an awesome idea. Furthermore she said she could get in touch with everyone I wanted. I was floored by her generosity and enthusiasm. Suddenly it looked like this might just work!!

So the plotting began, and I really do mean plotting, devious devious plotting, in which not only did I have to find subtle ways to make Jason leave the room so I could send quick messages to people, but I also had to hide and filter my emails from him.

When everything was ready to go, I got up early in the morning, made him Star Trek eggos and coffee, and set him down in front of his laptop with the now infamous words of ‘There’s something weird on the interwebs for you.’ What was to follow can only be described as fucking epic. I owe so much to everyone involved and I hope that you all know that you are really truly appreciated.

The next post will hold all the links from the original proposal ‘blogchase/blogscapade’, as well as links to all the blogs that got involved afterwards to send us loads of well wishes. It branched out into something much much bigger than I expected so be warned that you might get lost, but it’s well worth it 🙂
