I’m agog. Color me totally astounded that 419 Scammers use form mail. And here I thought every one was a beautiful and unique flower.
Did it come via Skype too? Because that’s the first time I’d ever been 419′d over Skype. Gmail/Hotmail, yeah, plenty, over the years.

Oh yes, they have. Unfortunately. You wouldn’t see so damn many of these scammers if there wasn’t SOME return. The thing is, they send out thousands, perhaps millions of these to people, and even if there’s a 0.001% return rate on people who bite, that’s more than enough people to make a profit. Consider how much of an advance fee they’ll ask for — maybe a couple thousand bucks — and how much they’re promising in return. You’ll never get the return, but they might get the megabucks out of you if you’re, say, a little old lady in Topeka getting on the interweb tubes for the first time.

if they are sending out thousands of emails how can they respond back? I sent a response saying that i didn’t want to be contacted again and they responded back? I’m not saying that i don’t believe that it’s a scam, i’m just saying that it seems odd. Wouldn’t they be overloaded with replys?

They likely wouldn’t. I’d bet they scale sending out e-mails based on how many “fish on the hook” they have. They’ll only continue conversations with people as long as they suspect they can convince their “fish” to give them money. Even if only a small portion of their e-mails or Skype messages result in actual contact as opposed to being ignored, blocked or reported as spam, as soon as they’ve got too many people to reply to, they probably stop sending out those initial e-mails until they’ve got things more under control.

Wow, that one’s new. It’s almost exactly identical, only translated very well into French. They took much greater care with using correct accents than they did with grammar or spelling in the English ones, too.
Bob: the numbers are simply large, randomly picked numbers that would attract someone’s attention and convince them to send bank account information so the 419ers can clean your bank out. Just because it’s not seven million dollars even, but rather 7,400,000, it seems more realistic. However, have you noticed that in all of them, even if the first number is different (3, 18, etc), it always seems to be 400,000 tacked onto the end as small change?
The number doesn’t correspond with any actual potential prize for somehow successfully navigating these jackasses’ frauds. Please don’t fall for it. They’ll clean out your bank account and leave you with no legal recourse whatsoever.

Understand the point of this post, Your Holiness King Mbaga. Someone contacted me with a very obvious scam via Skype. I posted it to my blog because it made me laugh. A lot of other people searched for terms pulled directly from that scam — meaning you haven’t changed your “script” enough from attempt to attempt, and that means people will catch on. I will give you this free piece of advice. Don’t copy and paste the same crap to more than one person, ever. If you do, we will know you’re trying to scam us, because the internet doesn’t forget.

Five thousand people died in that earthquake, and every bloody one of them must have been rich. I wonder how many times over that particular excuse has been used? Must be well more than 5000 by now!
I notice there’s a religious theme to these — they throw in a bit more bait for the hook, by saying it was “destiny” or “God’s will” that they contact you specifically.
Don’t be fooled. If there IS a deity, these people will face its wrath in the next plane of existence.
Edit: and apparently they lied about that 7.7-scale Jawa earthquake’s damage, which are estimated at roughly 700 deaths with 9000+ injuries.
