Working With CFI in the Future

Since I indicated my willingness to continue working with CFI in the future (context for those who don’t know what I’m talking about), some people have been asking me what exactly this means. Here are the details:

Yes, I will be speaking at the CFI Summit in Tacoma in October.
Yes, I am continuing with my column for Free Inquiry magazine.
Yes, I am back on the CFI Speakers’ Bureau.
And yes, Ingrid and I have resumed our subscription to Skeptical Inquirer magazine.

I have gone ahead and donated my honorarium from my recent talk at CFI headquarters in Amherst to the Secular Student Alliance. I said I would do that, so even though I’m now working with CFI again, I felt that I should honor that.

I think that covers everything. If there’s something I missed, let me know.

Will you be employing the targeted donation strategy with them going forward (ie, designating funds explicitly for WiS 3 Sponsorship, or for Melody Hensley’s salary), at least until they’ve demonstrated a clear intention to carry forward in the spirit of Lindsay’s apology?

freemage @ #2: I don’t have a huge amount of disposable income, so I don’t have a lot of money to donate to anyone. And I’m not sure CFI is who I would be financially supporting anyway, even if it hadn’t been for this incident: if I had money to donate, I’d probably donate (again) to the SSA, or to Camp Quest. That’s not anything against CFI: it’s just that other organizations get me more excited. I support CFI in other ways, mostly with my time and my platform. That being said: If I were to support them financially, right now I’d probably be inclined to earmark donations, but if they move in good directions in the future, I’d stop that. Others need to keep their own conscience about that decision.
