This post continues my leg of the Blogathon for SSA Week… now! From now until 9pm PDT, I will write one new blog post every hour. Plus, for every $100 raised during that time, I will post one new picture of our cats! And all donations will be matched by SSA Supporters Jeff Hawkins and Janet Strauss — so whatever you donate, it will be doubled!
As of 1:01 PDT: 431 Donors, $69,948.02
As of 2:01 PDT: 433 Donors, $70,118.02
I put together an atheist/ humanist/ skeptical/ irreligious mix CD a little while back, and thought I’d share it with all y’all. Songs being listed here is no indication that the singer or songwriter is an atheist. Links to YouTube videos when available.

Into My Arms, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam, The Vaselines

A Perfect Circle – Judith
Marilyn Manson – The Fight Song
Pain of Salvation – Mrs Modern Mary
Pain of Salvation – Differentia (Breaching the Core)
Opeth – God is Dead
Devin Townsend Project – Awake!! (probably stretching it a bit, I just love the final lyric:
And we looked up to the stars last night
And I saw that maybe…there was nothing more?
…and my thought turned!
These are not all strictly speaking ‘atheist songs’, but they do explore lots of interesting, related ideas. I think :p

Of course it’s not on YouTube, but I’ve long been fond of Robyn Hitchcock’s “Where Do You Go When You Die?”
For something completely different… Kacey Musgraves’s “Same Trailer Different Park” has some nontheist-friendly and anti-supernatural tracks (and is better than any country record I’ve listened to since “Shadowland”). For ex:
and
Jethro Tull’s Wind Up sums it up nicely:
“In your pomp and all your glory you’re a poorer man than me, as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.”
Plus the song just rocks.
I have a couple more Chumbawamba suggestions – “We Don’t Go to God’s House Any More” and “Look! No Strings!”
Sorry I didn’t think of this in my earlier comment, but “Blasphemous Rumours” by Depeche Mode definitely belongs here.
First time commenting, so I don’t get the username, but ok I’ll figure out how to customize it
Anyway, Pearl Jam’s Do The Evolution & I Am Mine first came to mind.
There are more from PJ but the titles are escaping me at the moment.
Shelley Segal has some good stuff.
Saved
Apocalyptic Love Song
I don’t believe in Fairies
It’s a little bit easy, but pretty much anything by Bad Religion. I first heard of them when Greg Graffin won an award from the Harvard Humanists (late in the game, I know) and I’ve been hooked since. For really explicit atheism and irreligion, some of the best are “God’s Love”, “You”, “Come Join Us”, “Sinister Rouge”, and “American Jesus”, but there’s lots more.
My first inspiration as a skeptic was “The Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog.
In the Sun by Joseph Arthur (although my favorite version is the cover by Peter Gabriel and Robert Fripp)
