Today’s Atheist Meme of the Day, from my Facebook page. Pass this on; or don’t; or edit it as you see fit; or make up your own. Enjoy!
Atheists enjoy the holidays as much as anyone else. We don’t observe the religious aspects, obviously; but we care about family and friends as much as anybody, and we are as happy to celebrate with them during a time of darkness and cold as much as anybody. Pass it on: if we say it enough times to enough people, it may get across. And for those who celebrate it: Merry Christmas!

Yes, and even people in the tropics and the Southern Hemisphere sometimes enjoy Christmas! Strange, that.

lilacsigil beat me to pointing out that for the southern half of the world, Christmas happens when it’s hot and bright, not cold and dark…
And we still like getting together with family and friends, even so.

Some atheists do certainly enjoy the holidays. Others, including me, want nothing to do with them.

I have fond memories of celebrating Hanukkah and Christmas as an atheist child in an atheist family (my father is an atheist Jew and my mother is a deconvert from Catholicism). So much celebrating!
Here’s one for you – this Christmas, my atheist mother gave two of her atheist children (my sister and me) Jewish paraphernalia (mostly books about Jewish history and culture) for Christmas.

Greta – have you heard this song by Tim Minchin?
White Wine In The Sun
You can read the song lyrics here:

I think it captures the atheist holiday spirit.
