Sunday Song: A Bit o’ Fun

This is a theme that will recur with some regularity, methinks! There are a great many songs and music videos out there that are just plain fun. Such as this one: watch closely! You don’t want to miss the awesome bit of physical humor near the end.

Your mission for this week, should you choose to accept it, is to share one of your favorite funny songs. Nothing mean-spirited or very problematic, though, please. Humor that punches up rather than down, or humor that doesn’t punch at all, is always welcome! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with.

Image shows a french horn on a couch with a ginger cat next to it. The cat has its butt up in the air towards the horn. Caption says, "I maekz better tootz."

The Cantina Pledge Drive continues! Thanks to those who’ve donated so far! I’m still trying to make rent, so if you have a bit to spare and wish to support my blogging, please click the donate button below. Thank you again, my darlings!

Please help keep the verdad flowing!

    Since you started posting Postmordern Jukebox videos on Farcebook, I’ve become a bit obsessed and have stayed up past my bedtime more than once watching their videos!

    Can’t go wrong with a bit of Tom Lehrer, though.

    Somehow I haven’t figured out how to just leave the link instead of embedding the whole video. I just copy the url, not use “share,” so I don’t know how to do it.
    Anyhow this video captures some of my favorite things: language and dancing, hilariously. Enjoy.

    Gonna give you a short list that is probably missing my ultimate fun song because of course when I have to think of it, it’s gone, but:
    – serious-fun, Irish dancing with attitude and Charlie Chaplin;
    – something local – the Bermuda Biangle, a bit of Latvian parody-Russian-hip-hop – it’s so over-the-top I can’t tell if it’s offensive (they also have this, a remake of Benny Benassi, and to be honest, I like the remake better…);
    – the Shrek version of a classic, I Need a Hero done with panache, style and an orchestra for extra drama;
    – this one’s not funny as such, but as a lover of math, it makes me giggle every time:
    Mandelbrot Set by Jonathan Coulton;
    and this, because of the video.
    Don’t worry, I have lots more. :)

    Two playlists you should have in the future: one for pure cheese (OMG IF YOU THOUGHT YOU SUFFERED BEFORE) and one for ‘fuck you’ songs.

    Mysterious Cities of Gold – so much of the music from that was so wonderful.

    “Frontier Psychiatrist” by the Avalanches. There’s a hilariously weird video on Youtube.

    “Surfin’ Bird” by the Trashmen, breathtakingly avant garde.

    “Dead Skunk” by Loudon Wainright.
