‘Dr’ Alex McFarland is a Genius

“Dr” Alex McFarland is the director of the Center for Christian Worldview and Apologetics at North Greenville University. He isn’t actually a doctor, though. In fact, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Southern Evangelical Seminary the same year he was named its president, which sounds totally legit. But you can’t put anything past him.

Klingenschmitt Apparently Hasn’t Read the Bible

I’m beginning to suspect that Gordon Klingenschmitt may be an elaborate Poe. On his Pray in Jesus’ Name internet show this week he actually slammed Islam because they force women to marry their rapists, saying that this is proof that Islam is a demonic religion.

Another Fake Jefferson Quote From the Christian Right

There is a quote that is often attributed to Albert Einstein, which he probably did not say, to the effect that there are only two infinite things in existence: the universe and human stupidity. Let me suggest that there may be another — fake Jefferson quotes (and, ironically, fake Einstein quotes). Here’s yet another one, in a video put out by Truth (LOL) in Action Ministries:

The Single Dumbest Thing I’ve Ever Read

Readers of this blog know that I document every day the staggeringly inane things said by the Christian right, so believe me when I say that I do not exaggerate when I say that this column at American Thinker is the single dumbest thing I have ever read. It’s so dumb that I suggest that you wear a helmet while reading it lest you give yourself a concussion from your head hitting your desk.

Obama Now Distracting From the Distraction

According to Laura Ingraham, Obama is using the Malaysian airliner getting shot down as a distraction from the child refugee problem, which I’m pretty sure was a distraction from the IRS scandal, which was a distraction from Benghazi. Oh dear, I think I’m distracted now.

Another Church/State Lawsuit in Warren, Michigan

The last few years have seen several battles over church/state separation in Warren, Michigan, where the mayor could hardly be more obvious in wanting his office to give official endorsement to Christianity and keep atheists from having equal access to the public square. AU, the ACLU and FFRF have filed another lawsuit.

Why the Rise of Secularism Is a Good Thing

Phil Zuckerman was asked by a journalist if he thinks the growing number of atheists and agnostics and the rise of a sizable secular demographic is a good thing for the country. He gives his answers in a column in Psychology Today and I agree with most of them.

Fox News Can’t Believe We Help Those Who Don’t Speak English

Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, easily the two dumbest men on television, are simply beside themselves at the idea that 911 emergency responders in Texas actually help people who don’t speak English. And they seem to think they’re supposed to determine whether someone is a citizen over the phone.

Victim-Blaming Judge Suspended in Montana

The Montana Supreme Court formally reprimanded and suspended (for 31 days) the judge who infamously blamed a 14 year old girl who was raped by one of her teachers and later committed suicide. Judge G. Todd Baugh says he’s going to retire at the end of this year when his term expires.

Paul, Booker Push Criminal Justice Reform

I’ve complained for years that Congress never tries to do anything to fix our unbelievably broken criminal justice system, mostly because there’s no moneyed constituency to pay them to do it. Rand Paul and Corey Booker are teaming up in the Senate with legislation that would at least be a tiny step in the right direction.

Bachmann in 2016? Oh Please Please Please

If the prospect of Rick Santorum, Herman Cain and Allen West running for the Republican nomination for president in 2016 isn’t exciting enough, now Michele Bachmann says she may run again too. Please pray, cross fingers, sacrifice chickens or whatever else you can think of to make this happen.

Uh Oh. The Wingnuts Turn on Ted Cruz.

I wrote the other day about the transparent sham of Ted Cruz pretending to give a shit about the child refugees he’s using as a political weapon, but for his more bigoted and extremist followers he has now revealed himself as a bleeding heart liberal and probably a communist. These are from his Facebook page:

Justice Kennedy States the Obvious

Justice Anthony Kennedy addressed the annual conference of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals a few days ago and said something that is obviously true but is bound to make a lot of conservatives lose their mind. Actually, he said two things that will do that. The first:

The Onion Takes On Abortion TRAP Laws

The Onion has an article that is just barely a parody of Target Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP) laws. TRAP laws are designed to put onerous and unnecessary restrictions on abortion clinics to force them to shut down, as has happened with dozens of clinics around the country already.

Gimme That Old Time Klingenschmitt ‘Logic’

Gordon Klingenschmitt has a powerful and compelling argument for why trans women should not be allowed to use the women’s bathroom:

“The Scriptures say in Deuteronomy 23 that he that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord. And if they can’t enter the congregation of the Lord, they certainly shouldn’t be allowed to enter the ladies bathroom.”

Genius. That same chapter also says that no bastards can enter the assembly of the lord, yet Gordon seems to have made it in.
