Pam Geller is lying. I’m sure that will come as a huge shock to you, but it’s true. U.S. military personnel in Bahrain have been educated on the laws in that country during Ramadan. Geller thinks that means that they’re being “forced to adhere to Sharia.”

The Islamophobic bigots trying to stop a Muslim group in Murfreesboro, TN from building a new mosque to accommodate their growing congregation have lost for good now that the Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal of the case they lost in the state courts.

I wrote recently in response to an article by Ali Rizvi in the Huffington Post about Islamophobia and a commenter suggested that I was misrepresenting his position. I had originally thought that he was denying the existence of Islamophobia entirely, but I was wrong. Somehow I had missed this one key sentence in his piece: …

Ali Rizvi, who I believe was raised Muslim and is now an atheist, has an article in the Huffington Post denying that there is such a thing as Islamophobia. I don’t think he makes the case. He does make the case that the term is sometimes misapplied, however, as in this example from the beginning …

In his weekly radio address over the weekend, President Obama talked about Easter and Passover, sending greetings to those who celebrate those two holidays. But he was far too ecumenical for hateful Islamophobes like Pam Geller, who accused him of “proselytizing for Islam” by even mentioning them. For the record, here is the transcript of …

Lou Ann Zelenik is mad as hell and she’s not going to take it anymore. The Tennessee Republican congressional candidate has been the most outspoken opponent of the building of a new mosque in Murfreesboro and when a student journalist tried to interview her about it recently she said she was “tired of having to …

Man, the wingnuts in Tennessee simply won’t give up. They’ve spent the last few years doing everything they can to prevent a Muslim community that has been in the area for decades from building a larger mosque to accommodate their numbers and now they’ve filed yet another lawsuit over the designation of part of their …

Law professor Eugene Volokh is devoting the entire week to blogging about the mythical threat of “creeping sharia” in the United States that is so heavily promoted by the far right. His first post is an overview of the subject, on which he wrote a law review paper.

Rep. Scott DesJarlais has taken time away from his very busy schedule of screwing his patients, impregnating them and urging them to get abortions despite his claim of being “pro-life” to pander to anti-Muslim bigots who are throwing a fit about a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee building a cemetery on their property.

Ah yes, the usual hysterical and completely unsupported assertions from the Worldnetdaily — combined, of course, with an ad for a book they’re making money from, because it isn’t news if they can’t sell you some junk vaguely related to it. They say a retired general has “confirmed” that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the …

If you’ve never heard Pam Geller speak, here’s a video clip of her being her usual obnoxious self. The only alternative to her Islamophobic right-wing activism, she claims, is “the gulag.” Oh, and President Obama is a “terror in the White House” who is “at war with Americanism.”

This is a guest post by Liam Deacon, a philosophy undergrad from Sheffield, England. It’s about a subject I’ve written about many times, the importance (and difficulty) of critiquing Islam even while also criticizing Islamophobia. Liam blogs here and there’s much more to read there.

“Michigan Muslims plot Islamic-Law Court” screams the Worldnetdaily headline. OMG! Sharia law coming to Michigan! People being beheaded! Christians thrown in prison! Run away, run away! The article is actually a perfect example of WND’s “journalism.” This is the sum total of the relevant text in the article:

John Guandolo, the disgraced former FBI agent (he got canned for having sex with a witness in a case) turned hyperbole purveyor about Muslim terrorism, seems to think that Tennessee is a hotbed of Sharia law. This is also the idiot who claims that CIA Director John Brennan is a secretly Muslim double agent.

The National Report, a political satire website, published an article about the city of Dearborn, which is about 50% Arab and Muslim, voting to become the first city to make Sharia law enforceable. Naturally, right wing websites missed the fact that it was a parody and repeated it as factual without doing any research.
