In a Rare Move, Congress Actually Does Something

In what almost seems astonishing, Congress has apparently struck a deal to actually pass legislation to fix a problem. Congressional negotiators have reached a tentative deal on a bill to fix some of the pressing problems in VA health care, including emergency funding.

Fox News Can’t Believe We Help Those Who Don’t Speak English

Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, easily the two dumbest men on television, are simply beside themselves at the idea that 911 emergency responders in Texas actually help people who don’t speak English. And they seem to think they’re supposed to determine whether someone is a citizen over the phone.

WND Lies About Tennessee Couple’s Divorce

The Worldnetdaily every day puts up stories that are really just links to other news sites, where they put in the first few paragraphs then link to the original, but they often do this while changing the headline to spin it the way they want. This “article” is a perfect example. Headline: “Obamacare forces couple …

Not So Fast on the Accommodation Workaround

The day after the Supreme Court ruling in the Hobby Lobby case, I wrote that the administration should be able to essentially moot the decision by extending the accommodation given to religious non-profits to for-profit companies as well. Turns out it isn’t quite that easy.

Why the Hobby Lobby Ruling Will Be Mostly Irrelevant Soon

This thought suddenly occurred to me Monday night as I was prepping for a Google Hangout to discuss the Hobby Lobby ruling: The majority opinion gave a roadmap for how the Obama administration can essentially moot the ruling unilaterally. In fact, they can do it today if they want. Let me explain.

A Very Good Sign for Obamacare

Dan Diamond reports on some very encouraging news on the health care front. Many insurance companies that initially did not take part in the state or federal health care exchanges in 2013 are now applying to add their policies to the marketplace, which means more competition that should keep premiums down.

Carson Continues the Tour of Lies

Ben Carson has a new book out and he continues to flat-out lie in order to defend his idiotic statement that the Affordable Care Act was the worst thing to happen to America since slavery. Oh, and worse than 9/11 too. Let’s watch him erect the straw man:

Carson: VA Scandal a ‘Gift From God’

Ben Carson has learned well how to appeal to the right wing base — mention God a lot. And lie a lot. His response to the scandal over secret waiting lists is to claim that it’s a “gift from God” because it shows the problems with Obamacare, which is nothing like the VA.

No, Obamacare is Nothing Like the VA

With the scandal over secret waiting lists at the VA, Republicans are now trying to claim that this is just like the Affordable Care Act. But the VA and the ACA are not even remotely alike. Fox News, of course, is pushing that argument like mad and PolitiFact calls this a pants on fire lie.

There Is No ‘Abortion Fee’ In Obamacare

Religion Dispatches reports on a lawsuit filed by a Catholic couple from Connecticut on the grounds that the Affordable Care Act forces them to pay an “abortion fee” as part of the insurance plan they got through the ACA’s health care exchange. There is no such fee.

Obamacare Already Helping Hospitals’ Bottom Line

One of the most obvious and important benefits of the Affordable Care Act is that it should reduce the number of people who go to hospitals and can’t afford to pay their bills. In fact, that has already begun to happen, especially in states that passed the Medicaid expansion portion of the law.

Universal Health Insurance Saves Lives. Film at 11.

A new study finds that if people have access to health insurance, they tend to live longer and healthier lives. Really, who would have guessed? The study is of the universal health care law in Massachusetts, which is nearly identical to the Affordable Care Act.

Do Republicans Just Want People to Die?

I don’t usually go for questions like that, but I’m having a hard time explaining the results of this survey without concluding that a significant number of Republicans don’t really favor a free market fix for health care so much as they just oppose people getting health care at all.

Bachmann Babbles About Obamacare

Tuesday was the oral argument in the Hobby Lobby case, so some of the far right members of Congress decided to get up and spew some nonsense about the case and about Obamacare in general. Michele Bachmann’s contribution was a rambling, paranoid diatribe about how Obama was going to deny life-saving drugs to her.
