Dwyer, Peroutka and Whitney Hatch a Plan

Remember Don Dwyer, the Maryland state legislator who got drunk and crashed his boat into a bunch of people, sending 7 of them to the hospital including several children, then blamed his drinking on the fact that he had lost a vote on same-sex marriage? Jonathan Hutson has some interesting information about him that I did not know. Like the fact that he used to be the executive director of Michael Peroutka’s theocratic Institute on the Constitution. And he may well be the one who got Peroutka and David Whitney, both high-ranking members of the neo-Confederate League of the South, to switch their party registrations to run for office in Maryland.

Peroutka: Teaching Evolution is ‘Disloyalty to America’

Right Wing Watch found a video of Michael Peroutka, former presidential candidate of the Constitution Party and a confirmed Christian theocrat, saying that evolution is “dangerous” and “anti-American” that teaching evolution or an old age for the earth is “disloyalty to America.” This video really must be seen to be believed.

Theocrats Run for Maryland Office

Fred Clarkson reports at Talk2Action that two longtime neo-Confederate theocrats, Michael Peroutka and David Whitney, have registered to run for spots on a county commission and on the party committees of both Republicans and Democrats in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Vander Plaats Lays Out Theocratic Vision

Bob Vander Plaats, the raging bigot who runs the Family Leader in Iowa and may run for Tom Harkin’s Senate seat, spoke recently at his organizations “Life, Marriage & Family” event and laid out a bluntly theocratic vision of governance. Every policy, in his view, must conform with God’s will (his interpretation of it, of course).

Another One Bites the Dust

Yet another right wing theocrat who spent years posing as the paragon of moral virtue has been knocked off his pedestal when he got caught cheating on his wife. This time it’s Doug Phillips, perhaps the single most important voice of the Quiverful movement and a genuine Christian Reconstructionist. He has resigned from his position with Vision Forum Ministries:

Lane Demands Mandatory Prayer in Schools

David Lane, the Christian right kingmaker of the Republican party, sent an email to his American Renewal Project mailing list seeking ten members of Congress willing to sponsor a bill overturning the Supreme Court cases prohibiting mandatory Bible reading and prayer in public schools. Because if they can’t force people to pray and read the Bible, the secularists are denying them their rights.

Beck Website Promotes Ron Paul Curriculum

Glenn Beck’s The Blaze website has an article about the Ron Paul Curriculum, which promises to teach homeschooling parents and students “get an education in liberty like no other.” Given that the curriculum is being developed by Gary North, the nation’s leading Christian Reconstructionist, you can be sure that “liberty” is being defined in an Orwellian manner.
