On Tuesday, Al Bedrosian won the Republican primary for a seat on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors. He ran largely on a platform of being in favor of opening that board’s meetings with prayer, which has been a matter of some controversy. The Roanoke Times reprints an article Bedrosian wrote in 2007 where he …

Ark. School Cancels 6th Grade Graduation
The Riverside School District in Lake City, Arkansas has canceled their 6th grade graduation ceremonies after the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent them a letter objecting to the fact that such ceremonies have always included Christian prayers. And the supporters of that policy are making some predictably ridiculous arguments:

Another School With Ten Commandments Displays
Here’s another school that is blatantly violating the Establishment Clause by putting up displays of the Ten Commandments in every classroom. Muldrow High School and middle school in Oklahoma have them up and the Freedom From Religion Foundation have sent a letter demanding that they be taken down.

OMG! Obama ‘Cleansed’ Day of Prayer of Jesus!
Thursday, May 2 was the annual National Day of Prayer, decreed by Congress to be so. As all presidents do, President Obama issued a declaration on the matter. But the Worldnutdaily is clutching their pearls because Obama, like the Muslim atheist commie terrorist that he is, “cleansed” the declaration of Christianity.

America’s Founding in the Ron Paul Curriculum?
I was on my friend Jeremiah Bannister’s Paleoradio show this week talking about Gary North being in charge of developing the Ron Paul Curriculum, to be used primarily by homeschoolers, and he brought up a very interesting question? How are they going to treat the question of America’s founding and Christianity?

Half of Republicans Would Make Christianity Official Religion
Here’s a very disturbing survey result. Nearly one-third of Americans, according to a recent poll, would support making Christianity the official religion of their state or the entire country — and a far higher percentage of Republicans.

Barber Passes on Muhlenberg Myth
Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel’s latest Worldnutdaily column is based around a myth that was debunked many years ago, the legendary story of Rev. Peter Muhlenberg, a Lutheran pastor who, the story goes, tore off his robe during a sermon to reveal a military uniform and joined the revolutionary war and started a whole regiment …

Jackson: Freedom Due to Christianity
Bishop Harry Jackson, the absolutely deranged anti-gay bigot, was part of an interfaith panel on CBS News talking about religious freedom and other issues. Jackson delivered the tired old line about Christianity being the basis for the nation’s founding and for the entire concept of religious liberty.

Pat Boone: Still a Nation Under God?
Pat Boone, who is an even worse columnist than he is a singer (and that’s saying a lot), has a Worldnutdaily column asking if we are “still one nation under God.” The answer is no, of course, nor were we ever, all empty slogans to the contrary. And he offers the same illogical argument that …

Wingnuts Lose Suit Over MN History Standards
Texas and Kansas are apparently not the only states where the right wing wants to change the history standards. In Minnesota, they actually filed a lawsuit over the history curriculum for public schools and a state judge just ruled against them in that suit.

Barton Brings His Lies to Michigan
Last weekend, David Barton was at Fellowship Reformed Church in Hudsonville, Michigan, about an hour from where I live. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it down there, but Right Wing Watch has some of the transcript of Barton telling the same old lies. Like his claim that the Constitution contains “direct quotations” from the Bible.

Another Jefferson Lie From Barton
David Barton’s book The Jefferson Lies may be the most appropriately titled book ever written, as it was packed full of lies. And he continues to add new ones to the list. Warren Throckmorton catches yet another one, and as usual it’s Barton taking one tiny little nugget of truth, ignoring everything else and both …

Ellery Schempp Blasts David Barton
I wrote recently about David Barton’s latest lie (well, probably not his latest; he seems to lie every time he opens his mouth), about an expert witness in Abington Township v Schempp. Hemant contacted Ellery Schempp, the plaintiff in that case, to get a reaction. And boy, what a reaction it was. Knowing what a …

Frazer vs. Barton on Jefferson
I have for many years regarded Gregg Frazer, a historian from The Master’s College, as one of the finest scholars on the subject of religion and the Founding Fathers (he is the one who coined the phrase “theistic rationalist” to describe the views of the key founders, which I use often). In World Magazine, he …

Dean: Pastors Loved Godly Constitution
Bradlee Dean’s latest missive from Planet Wingnuttia quotes several Christian pastors praising the Constitution and claiming that it was a Christian document, thus proving Dean’s contention that the Constitution was passed to George Washington by Jesus himself at the foot of Mt. Sinai.
