Fischer: God Will Use ISIS to Punish America for The Gay

Another day, another unbelievably stupid pronouncement from Bryan Fischer. This time it’s the old “we’re so immoral that God is justified in destroying us” combined with “and he’s going to use Muslims to do it.” That he is actually agreeing with those Muslims about both America’s immorality (because of The Gay, of course) and about God’s desire for retribution never seems to occur to him.

Asserting that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah are “just like the Gay Gestapo is today” and that America is celebrating behavior that God calls an abomination while persecuting those who stand for God’s values, Fischer warned that “God eventually is going to run out of patience with the United States.”

And when that day comes, he said, God “will use pagan armies to discipline his people if they turn from him in rebellion and disobedience and descend into debauchery,” pointing to the rise of ISIS to raise the possibility that “God will use the pagan armies of Allah to discipline the United States for our debauchery.”

Uh, Bryan — you might want to look up the word “pagan” in the dictionary. It doesn’t mean what you think it means. Muslims are not pagans. As for this allegedly vicious God of yours, he has but one excuse: He doesn’t exist.

  1. Mr Ed says

The people of Sodom and Gomorrah were like the conservatives of today.

“‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. Ezekiel 16:49

  2. Chiroptera says

“just like the Gay Gestapo is today”

Does Fischer have any idea what the Nazi Gestapo was doing in Europe during WWII? I doubt their sole crime was to just badger non-Nazis into accepting that Nazis be allowed to marry.

  3. says

Chiroptera “I doubt their sole crime was to just badger non-Nazis into accepting that Nazis be allowed to marry.”
They’re exactly the same! Do you know nothing of history? How can you forget Glitternacht?!

  4. Abby Normal says

Apparently God already plagues us with swarms of false prophets. Haven’t we suffered enough?

  5. John Pieret says

pointing to the rise of ISIS to raise the possibility that “God will use the pagan armies of Allah to discipline the United States for our debauchery.”

Yeah! Any day now, all the ISIS fighters are going to jump into rowboats, evade the most powerful navy in the world and invade the US. Or maybe they can borrow those two small corvettes that the Iranians sent into the Atlantic that gave wingnuts such palpitations.

  6. Chiroptera says

The ISIS is going to disguise themselves as 11 year old Guatamalan children and infect us all with Ebola!

  7. dugglebogey says

Bryan Fisher is so obsessed with gays that his latent homosexuality is glaringly obvious. Come out of the closet already Bryan! It’s okay, the only people that will hate you for it are really just gay themselves and can’t come to terms with it, just like you are now!

  8. ursamajor says

The meme that god will use the reward the worst sinners to punish lesser sinners was one that made my head spin back when I was a Christian.
But carry on Fischer, it is immoral illogic like that which helped push me out of religion and I am sure many others as well.

  9. says

    From the OP:

I remember seeing a quiz go around, challenging the reader to compare the statements of Osama bin Laden, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson, (*) and try to figure out who had said what.

It wasn’t easy. I think I scored somewhere in the mid-60 percent range.

(*) If memory and a cursory Google search serve.

  10. says

Maybe someone should get in touch with the FBI or Homeland Security. Fischer might be one of those secret Muslim agents the kook brigade like to worry about.

  11. Anton Mates says

God must have gotten distracted, because the pagan armies of Allah are apparently murdering the wrong people at the moment. I mean, these folks don’t really seem to be reveling in hedonism and debauchery, or having lots of gay marriage for that matter.

  12. Kimpatsu says

Uh, Bryan — you might want to look up the word “pagan” in the dictionary. It doesn’t mean what you think it means.
The Catholic GK Chesterton did the same thing. Anyone who wasn’t a Xian he called a pagan–thus lumping Muslims, Wiccans and atheists into the same category.

  13. says

God “will use pagan armies to discipline his people…

Wouldn’t that make the pagan armies god’s actual chosen people? Since he is choosing them to do his work because the others are not doing what he wants, that makes them the favored people, right?

    So confused.

  14. dan4 says

@7 Your “anti-gay person=gay person” shtick is getting really annoying. Do you even apply this, ahem, “thinking” consistently? Are vocal anti-Semites actually just longing to convert to Judaism? Are Caucasians who are vocally racist against African-Americans secretly light-skinned blacks?

  15. dan4 says

@11. That might actually be considered a funny response…if you don’t understand that “x has no place in the 21st century” and “x is existing in the 21st century” don’t actually contradict each other.

  16. Matt G says

Well, He *did* use Al Qaeda to destroy the World Trade Center because of the gays and lesbians….

To say that “x has no place in the y century” — rather than “x is evil” or “x is a threat to our way of life and must be fought to the death” — suggests one believes the arc of history tends in a particular direction. The existence of something like ISIL/ISIS/IS/I is thus not merely a moral outrage or existential threat — it is a baffling anomaly that suggests that history is not going according to plan. An eldritch abomination that must never be spoken or even thought: What if the wrong side of history wins??

    How is that not funny?

Meanwhile, Islamic fanatics in the USA use the Grindr app to lure unsuspecting gays to their doom and the black flag of IS flies in front of the White House courtesy of smartphone technology …

  18. dugglebogey says

@17 Okay dan4, are you claiming that latent homosexuality doesn’t exist?

I’m sorry but if you do nothing all day but think about gay people and write about gay people a, you’ve probably got sexual identity issues!

And no, I’m not going to stop. The fact that it annoys you is the reason that I do it.

  19. says

[blockquote][T]o discipline the United States for our debauchery[/blockquote]

OT: Interesting how these days, the term “debauchery” isn’t really a negative. It’s more synonymous for “having a good time’,

Not that change a wink when it comes to Fischer, as having a good time is exactly what he is against.

  20. dan4 says

@17″ Okay dan4, are you claiming that latent homosexuality doesn’t exist?” Strawman alert! I’m not claiming that “latent homosexuality doesn’t exist,” I’m claiming that being a vocal gay basher does not AUTOMATICALLY make a person a “latent homosexual.”

“I’m sorry but if you do nothing all day but think about gay people….”

How do you know what Bryan Fischer “thinks about” all day? Do you have some sort of ESP powers or something?

“…and write about gay people a,…”

Fischer doesn’t “write about gay people all day.” He actually writes on a number of topics. You can Google his name and see that fact for yourself.

“The fact that it annoys you is the reason that I do it.”

Ah, so you possess the maturity level of a seven-year old.

  21. says

    ursamajor @9.
Yeah, that whole thing bothers me. If god wants to teach the US a lesson, wouldn’t he use like a god-army or something? I mean, if he lets the muslims do it, how are we supposed to know it’s god that’s mad and not some Imam who is insane type mad?

  22. Nick Gotts says

Okay dan4, are you claiming that latent homosexuality doesn’t exist? – dugglebogey@22

When someone disputes the claims that Obama is a covert Muslim/communist/Nazi/atheist, do you think they are denying the existence of Muslims/communists/Nazis/atheists who conceal their beliefs? Your bizarre belief that you can diagnose latent homosexuality in homophobes is just as irrational as the claims about Obama.

  23. dingojack says

So Nick, you know of a lot of muslim-commie-nazi-athiests who conceal their beliefs? Name three.
I’m sure we can all think of three rabid right-wing homophobes who turned out to be raging hypocrites.

Really? That confuses you? Seriously? The concept, fantasy or not, that god has a chosen people and uses others to chastise/punish them– is too difficult to grasp? (BTW I think it is an unbiblical fantasy in the NT era.)

    Nick Gotts #27,

    Well put!

  25. Nick Gotts says

So Nick, you know of a lot of muslim-commie-nazi-athiests who conceal their beliefs? Name three. – dingojack@28

First, let me note the stupidity of your response. Even if there were in fact no Muslims, communists, Nazis or atheists who conceal their beliefs, it would not be the case that disagreeing with a specific claim that someone is a covert Muslim, communist, Nazi or atheist implies a claim that there are no such people. But of course you didn’t notice this stupidity, because you are as invested as dugglebogey in the homophobic claim that all prominent homophobes are covertly or latently homosequal.

However, as far as the Nazis are concerned, members of the BNP and other European would-be-respectable far-right parties provide plenty of examples: people filmed giving Nazi salutes and subsequently denying they are Nazis. 3 names: Alex Wood, Chris Hurst, Joe Killen. Because of lin restrictions, I can’t link to them all, but all are linked from here.

With regard to Communists, I’ll name the famous British spies Donald Maclean, Guy Burgess, Kim Philby, Anthony Blunt and John Cairncross – there, 5 for the price of 3.

Muslims? I can’t name any offhand, but I can think of many parts of the USA and Europe where, if I was a Muslim convert, it would be prudent to conceal it.

As for atheists – srsly? You’ve been around FtB how long? Without seeing posts from atheists who are concealing their atheism for fear of repercussions from family, employer, government? Pfft.

  26. jonathangray says

    Nick Gotts:

people filmed giving Nazi salutes and subsequently denying they are Nazis

    Perhaps they were Roman salutes.

  27. Nick Gotts says

    jonathangray@32,

Well admittedly, there is a considerable overlap between Roman Catholicism and Nazisn, both in personnel and ideology…

  28. dingojack says

    Nice try Nick.
Now answer the question actually asked.
Name people who are simultaneously muslim-commie-nazi-atheists just as the right-wing claim Obama is (even although there’s not a shred of evidence that such a category actually exists or he is a member of said ‘category’*).
    It’s fine, I’ll wait.
    Dingo
    ———
    * as opposed to rabid right-wing homophobes that have proven to be, in actuality, raging hypocrites.
    ———-
    Or patriotic Americans, Jon-Jon. :)

  29. Nick Gotts says

Poor try, dingojack@34. My term was “covert Muslim/communist/Nazi/atheist” – i.e., covertly any of the four, not all of them together. You then changed this to “muslim-commie-nazi-athiests”, by which you now say you meant people who are all four simultaneously. Since I said nothing whatever about such obviously non-existent individuals, your challenge is even more stupid than I had realised – if, that is, it isn’t plain dishonest.

  30. Nick Gotts says

OH and BTW, dingojack@34, can you produce a single example of a claim that Obama is simultaneously Muslim, communist, Nazi and atheist?
