Ted Cruz: Xenophobia, but With Teddy Bears

Many, including me, praised Glenn Beck for saying that the child refugees should be treated with compassion rather than being made into a political football. But that was before he actually invited Ted Cruz to come along with him to hand out teddy bears and soccer balls to the very kids he wants to send back to life-threatening poverty and violence.

Sen. Ted Cruz announced last week that his new “top priority” in Washington is to end President Obama’s deferred action program for DREAMers and start deporting undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.

But to show that he is approaching his new top priority in a compassionate way, Cruz made a stop at the border this weekend to help Glenn Beck hand out his truckload of teddy bears and soccer balls to children who have come to the southern border fleeing violence in Central America…

Cruz told Beck’s The Blaze network that “our country has always been a country of compassion, of humanity,” but “as long as that promise of amnesty is there, more and more children will come.”

Isn’t that the truth? If we give one starving person a meal, the next thing you know some other starving person will want one too. That’s why we shouldn’t give anyone food, clothing, shelter or medical care. It will only encourage others to take advantage of our magnanimous compassion. This is exactly what Jesus warned against in the Sermon on the Mount when he said, “Blessed are those who refuse to take care of needy children because fuck those kids, right?”

Those were not loaves and fishes. Those were flyers on campaign contribution limits and prospectuses on hedge funds.

Which statement infamously led to tragic consequences when misread by the RCC.

And if we give children fleeing Central American drug cartels, who are threating to make them into drug mules, addicts or just kill them, isn’t giving them teddy bears and soccer balls enough to keeping them coming to the southern border fleeing violence in Central America?

I have said many times that there is wisdom in the Bible, though you have to wade through a lot of myth and misogyny to get to it. Here is how the Bible expresses the notion “Do not send to learn for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee.”

Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

I’m with Jesus. If you are going to treat anyone like they want to treat those kids, then they are treating ME like that. I don’t like it.

What a dick gift. They go through all the work to make them and he just gives them back.

I’ve accidentally heard Beck a few times lately – when did he become the Mormon Pope?

75 years ago we were supposed to learn from the voyage of the St. Louis & never forget. I really thought we’d learned something.

I just hope those teddy bears were stuffed with asbestos. How else will these kids learn not to break the law?

    We did. It worked, too.

America is not some tiny lifeboat that is going to be capsized if we give help to homeless children fleeing sexual slavery.

If American cannot withstand the immigration of a few thousand homeless children who desperately need to be saved from lives of sexual slavery, then it is completely useless and doesn’t deserve to continue.
