America’s ‘Open Rebellion Against God’

Like many other bigots, Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission is seizing on a single poll that shows only about 3% of Americans identify as gay, lesbian or bi to claim that we should be catering to such a tiny minority. Because they’d totally change their mind if it were 10% or 20%. There some serious stupid in this column.

Homosexuals don’t suffer alone. Their families are impacted, too. If your parent, child or sibling “comes out” you are supposed to affirm and celebrate their choice and pretend everything’s normal, if not better. Even though you still love them, if you don’t play along with their sinful choices you’re considered judgmental. If you object to them selfishly flaunting their sinful lifestyle at family gatherings in front of impressionable children they try to make you feel guilty. Christ reserves His strongest condemnation for those who would cause children to stumble, so should we.

Unless those children are gay, of course. Then fuck them.

For the sake of appeasing the twisted sexual proclivities of less than 3% of our population, America has become an advocate of open rebellion against God. Even though God’s standards of sexual morality are supported by natural law, science and history, we think we can mock the “Laws of nature and Nature’s God” and survive.

Yes, we are in OPEN REBELLION against God. Like when we let people believe in other gods, in direct violation of the very first of the Ten Commandments? Open rebellion. And when we brazenly allow women to get married without proving that they’re virgins? Open rebellion. And allowing Red Lobster to exist? Okay, so maybe God should destroy us for that, not because eating shellfish is evil but because they’re charging far too much for seafood that is barely better than Long John Silver’s.

Maybe God should go to the Olive Garden instead. I hear Mrs Wolowitz has a coupon from the paper that she ended up not using. He could borrow it from her.

I dared god to come and fight me like a man over fifty years ago. The coward still hasn’t shown up. I win by default.

America has become an advocate of open rebellion against God.

With a slight change that’s completely true. America has become an advocate of the right to openly rebel against God. It’s that advocacy of freedom of speech and religion that often sends more conservative countries around the bend, for two reasons: (1) they don’t want their citizens getting the idea that they should have that right too, and (2) they don’t want their citizens looking at the US, and realizing that if the religious police (or equivalent) disappeared overnight, their country wouldn’t fall and everything would be just fine.

The lighter, business analogy would be to say that we demonstrate that nobody needs what they’re selling. The darker analogy would be to say that our example poses an existential threat to any theocracy that claims theocracy is needed for a society to survive.

    Open rebellion? Yes!

Romans 12:20, NIV “”If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. ”

Luke 6:35: “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”

Isaiah 58:10: “and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”

Ezequiel 16:49: “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.”

Matthew 25:41, 42: “”Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,”

Someone’s in open rebellion against the commands of their God. And it isn’t the 3%.

You know he’s right. It was all fine when they were hiding their sickness, but after they came out, fought for their “rights” and won the Culture War via positions high up in entertainment, law and politics, everything was ruined. it’s disgusting. Us Christians can’t even go to out anymore without having their agenda rammed down our throats. For example, when I take my children shopping, I have to explain to them why “they” get all “their own” stuff, like scissors and baseball gloves.

If your parent, child or sibling “comes out” you are supposed to affirm and celebrate their choice and pretend everything’s normal….

…rather than admit that the discomfort you feel is a problem and you need to fix it.

Perhaps he was thinking of the evil of abandoning children… Oh wait:
    Matthew 19:29
“And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.”
    Guess not. More ‘Judeo-Christian values’.

Now activists are openly working to normalize pedophilia…

Now our government is openly exporting radical, anti-Christ policies…

Am I the only one who’s noticed that wingnuts routinely use the term “openly” to mean something that it plainly does not mean?

  9. John Pieret says

If God didn’t destroy us for open rebellion after leisure suits in the 70s, he’s never gonna do it.

  10. D. C. Sessions says

Am I the only one who’s noticed that wingnuts routinely use the term “openly” to mean something that it plainly does not mean?

As distinct from what other word?

You might check with philosophers, scientists, and historians before you go mispeaking for them.

  12. smrnda says

If nature is any evidence of god’s standards, homosexuality is there, and heck , some ducks engage in necrophilia.

Science is only going to tell us things like ‘if you don’t want an STI, use a condom” – sexual morality isn’t really science, though I’m guessing you could look at social science research on different types of practices and their possible outcomes.

I wonder what percentage of Americans he considers true Christians. Probably whatever percentage fits whatever rant he’s presenting at the moment.

  14. Joe Mama says

    God’s standards of sexual morality

You mean like making a guy have sex with his dead brother’s wife and then killing him because he pulled out?

    twisted sexual proclivities

Meaning “Anything my wife won’t do in the bedroom.”

  15. says

    A rebellion against god?

I think the correct term is a rebellion against discrimination. People should be treated equally the same in this country but as long as religion promotes hatred and bigotry we will rebel against it. It is a disease of epidemic proportions that does more harm that any single natural disaster could ever possibly attain. In this country we have the highest incarceration rate of any country. And what is most prevalent in all the studies about prison and people sent there, religion. And even when they find religion we have a high recidivism rate. Talk about a smoking gun.

  16. Joe Mama says

Oh and one more thing. God didn’t care when Christians came to this land and took it away from the native population and basically committed genocide against them; God didn’t care when we kidnapped Africans, brought them to this country as slaves, and sold them and their children as slaves, ensuring that if they didn’t get bought by the same person they’d never see their loved ones again, and even after freeing them treated them as second class citizens; God didn’t care when we kept rights away from the female half of the country and treated them as second class citizens for most of the country’s existence; God doesn’t care if we invade other countries and drop bombs on them under false pretenses of stopping terrorism; but God will destroy our country because we allow people of the same sex who love each other to get married?

  17. Childermass says

Of course God is going to destroy us for accepting homosexuality just like he destroyed Rome. Luckily God likes to procrastinate, like he did for Rome, and so our doom should come seven hundred years or so give or take.

  18. cartomancer says

It would be going altogether too far to say that the Romans as a whole ever really “accepted” same-sex sex. Tolerated, certainly, for the most part, but it was never really seen as something good and beneficial. Their opinions on it were multifarious and divided, and there was plenty of gossipy homophobic slander among all classes in Rome throughout its history. The go-to slurs against a disliked politician or emperor were that he was cowardly, venal, effeminate, too interested in foreign culture and religion and that he liked sex (especially in the passive role) with other men. Suetonius relates a lot of these charges early on in the Empire, against the likes of Tiberius, Nero and Caligula, as does Ammianus Marcellinus much later against Hadrian, Elagabalus and Julian.

What they never did, of course, was roundly condemn or outlaw it. Pre-christian Romans weren’t really worried about what people did in their bedrooms as a matter of public order. It was only really the christian emperors who took an interest in prohibiting it – the Code of Justinian preserves their efforts. So one could say that the eventual collapse of centralised Roman power only came when Rome began to stop being broadly tolerant.

It always amazes me when these people trot out the strange old “civilizations end when they embrace equality for gay people” schtick. There’s just no evidence of it anywhere in history…

  19. comfychair says

I would guess that the 3% of the population that happen to be gay get much more than 3% of the hate and abuse.

  20. Abdul Alhazred says

The American rebellion against God started with the rejection of the divine right of kings.
