Jon Stewart vs Louis Gohmert

Jon Stewart takes on the right wing’s freakout over 52,000 child refugees who have entered the country over the last few months, especially the incredibly stupid Louis Gohmert and one of his loopy House floor speech. This is funny stuff.

If only, Ed, you could speak to Mr Stewart and tell him that his fans in the UK are deeply dissatisfied.

What we get from Comedy Central UK is entirely random, often excludes the sharpest bits and is a great disservice to viewers.

  2. dingojack says

You’re lucky Maureen – here Mr Stewart doesn’t even deign to show his face….
    Dingo

MB, that’s what VPN redirectors are for.

They’re on their way to being very popular here for several reasons (besides the NSA), but one of them is that they’re faster for accessing NetFlix and other video streams than going direct thanks to ISPs throttling access to video sources that don’t pay tolls.

  4. Synfandel says

In Canada, we just get a notice telling us to go to thecomedynetwork.ca to view the video, but how do you find the right bit? Ed, maybe you could tell us on which day the segment aired. That would narrow it down a bit.

I googled “jon stewart gohmert” and the first result took me to a Comedy Central list of clips with Gohmert in them, the first of which was the right one. (The third one was Gohmert’s famous rant about “asparagus.” The man is comedy gold.)

You must be in the United States, Zeno. The other 6,729,000,000 of us are blocked from viewing Comedy Central videos for reasons of regional advertising revenue.

Plus they don’t even add subtitles.

This sudden outrage on the right over immigrant children: does this mean we’re done with gay marriage now?

  9. says

Understood, Synfandel. But you asked about finding the correct clip and you supposedly have access to them via thecomedynetwork.ca. Or is it misleading when they refer you to a Canadian site and they’re actually not there? Or—almost as bad—does Google not search through them for Canadian residents? No doubt there are other complications in other parts of the world.

WHY DO YOU THINK THEYRE COMING HERE?!!!

  11. Synfandel says

@10 Zeno: No, unfortunately Google does not index thecomedynetwork.ca’s clips and the site itself does not offer any search capability. It gives links to a few clips from very recent episodes by date and that’s it.

  12. boadinum says

Yes, Ed, as Synfandel @4 said, knowing the air date would be very helpful. Our Fascist Harper government won’t allow us to watch political satire…except for “This Hour Has 22 Minutes”, “The Mercer Report”, …

Well, OK, we can watch anything we want. But The Comedy Network (Canada) blocks us from watching “The Daily Show” or “The Colbert Report” on any website but their own. I think this is illegal, and I’m looking into it. In the meantime, dates, please.

Synfandel, to be fair, Canada just got the internet. Plus, it has to be translated in to both official languages, so it’s dead slow. That it’s a series of tubes probably doesn’t help. I saw a translator get sucked in to one. The long string of Quebecer swears slowly fading in to the distance still haunts me.

  14. boadinum says

Thanks Synfandel. I know it’s sometimes possible to track down a third-party link, but it’s a pain in the ass and the ads are brutal.

And Modus, yes, the intertubes are pretty new here. Most of us still have dial-up, and the rest use binary smoke signals. In Quebec they communicate by flinging poutine and bagels at each other while screaming “Tabernac estee calis, plote de vache”.

Here in communist-Muslim Chicago, Stewart runs on all channels, all the time. It’s been that way since the early 60s, while Obama was being groomed by his atheist, Mau Mau overlords at the Leninist-Kenyan Madrasa.

If you are using the Firefox browser, add an extension called Proximate to by pass much of the US geo-blocking.

  17. speed0spank says

@boadinum I don’t think it is illegal. I think its just a copyright/revenue kind of thing. A lot of American tv channel’s websites will not let anyone out of the country view them.

I watch TDS all the time from Vietnam. I just use the Hola Unblocker Chrome extension. It also lets me use Netflix, Hulu, etc. I think they also have it for Firefox.

I agree they should be deported. Wait, I thought they meant the people protesting the refugees. Nevermind then.

    “Greatest country since Solomon’s Israel.”

Really? No other civilization is better than an ancient mythological autocracy without electricity, running water, sewers, or antibiotics that was allegedly ruled by an apocryphal despot with hundreds of wives and concubines and reportedly handled child custody cases with the threat of human dismemberment.

Yeeeeeeah, Gomer, that sounds like fucking Utopia.

Thank you for that tip, Trickster Goddess. It couldn’t be simpler. I installed the Proxmate extension in about 3/4 of a second, reloaded this page, and the video played. No configuration required, no technical expertise necessary.
