MN Republican Candidate A Young Earther

Remember Bob Frey, Michele Bachmann’s buddy who is running for Congress from Minnesota and thinks that AIDS is caused by an enzyme in sperm? I’m sure you’ll be shocked to find out that he’s also a young earth creationist who thinks humans and dinosaurs lived together and that this should be taught in schools.

Did he say a plesiosaur was washed up on a beach in 2002? This guy couldn’t see reality if he combined Hubble and the VLT.

    You’re right! I’m shocked – shocked I tell you.

Not even once the James Webb and E-ELT are in service and thrown into the mix.

If I remember correctly, even back in 2002 only the most reckless creationists were running with the Nova Scotia plesiosaur story. The rest were urging caution. I hope that it’s not too much of a spoiler to reveal that it turned out to be a badly decomposed basking shark.

Sadly, no. Worse, I wouldn’t be shocked if he wins. Paul (“evolution and the big bang
theory are lies straight from the pit of Hell”) Broun did and was appointed to the House Science, Space and Technology Committee to boot.

Well you get what you vote in, when America reaches 5th world standards, in science, technology and industry, maybe the voting public will wake up and realize that these fuckers are certifiably insane…

Even then the right-wing jebus drooling dingbats will still vote them in cos tis their delusional god’s will or summat’…and no matter how bad it gets tis only god’s punishment, and lunatics running the asylum, what could possibly go wrong?!

Until the media grow up and get themselves educated …seems like yous guys are well and truly fucked!

And it seems debatable if the Democrats have the answer either…they too share some notable brain dead fucktards, not as many as their adversaries for sure but possibly enough to pretend dominance and play puppet master as to science policy in research !

    Nope.

    Yep.

I grew up in Minnesota in the days of Hubert Humfrey,k Walter Mondale and that group., Maybe they were not perfect but they were a hell of lot better than the idiots that are now crawling out from under their rocks to try an get elected.. Being out of the state for many years I can only comment on what I know and as far as I am concerned the only rational, thinking person in the state now is P.Z. Meyers.

Thanks for the pep talk. Way to ruin my day

Well not my intention and I do apologise if that was so!

What I really do not understand in American society is the role of the media.

Why they do not swot these dumb clowns down for the 101 inane postulations they make everyday I really struggle to appreciate.

THat they are expressing their ‘freedom of speech’ dogma…constitutional rights etc etc…is fine…but that does not mean they cannot be challenged or even rebuffed on a national level, cos what is good for the gander also jollies up the goose!

They they ‘only report the news verbatim’ is one thing, that they do their reader/listener…ship short change by only concentrating on the reported claim and neither question or seek further clarification from institutions and real experts as to the veracity of these claims is the mystery…these dullards are fuckin’ certifiable, calling them out on that premise might well instil a little more confidence in the USA from the rest of the global community…

It would also be appreciated if the exporting of religio bullshite to 3rd world countries in general and Blighty in particular was somewhat curtailed…there is enough mentally challenged dingbats in both places to be getting along with as it is!

Although quite how that can be regulated is indeed a mystery all by its lonesome!

    Re anubisprime @ #14

What you are describing is he said she said journalism in which both sides of an argument are reported on with no further investigation by the reporter. We see this especially in discussions on cable TV “news” programs on the subject of global warming where a Roy Spencer or a Janet Curry is pitted one on one against, say, a Michael Mann or James Hanson. The moderator almost always fails to point out that Spencer and Curry reside in a tiny minority of expert opinion on global warming. A casual viewer who hasn’t followed climate change discussions is fooled into thinking that there is a 50 50 split amongst the experts when it’s more like 97 to 3 in favor of expert opinion supporting the theory of global warming. There was a segment on the Daily Show with John Oliver pointing out the fallacy of this approach to discussions.

That is exactly my point, and it is a damn shame that the American general public are, one could say deliberately, mislead, but for what reason I have no idea.

It is almost a self harm psychology in built.

And it is prevalent in every major issue where contention is indeed encouraged by such warped presentations.

From dingbat penny ha’penny scam merchants being aired on Oprah to the sycophantic reception to the discovery institute on any religious waffle that pads a piece out to the journos’ or reporters greater glory.

The pro-life lobby have, seemingly every outlet tied up signed sealed and delivered…and as for atheism or atheist secular activities, not one major channel will touch that aspect of life on pain of upsetting elderly gents in dresses pretending to be balanced and logical in outlook.

Until media and TV in particular grow up and actually do their job properly, instead of chasing viewing figures, from a dumb viewer-ship with short attention spans, then it will be uphill all the way until a truly rational society can be claimed and enjoyed.

The UK has slightly different problems…really apathetic voters and really shit psychotic attitudes from a dysfunctional government in the process of imploding on their own pompousness.

Religion has traditionally taken a back seat, but they are trying so hard to to be relevant and hip, and fail time and time again…almost feel sorry for them.

But even the BBC cannot help itself but fall over themselves signing up ‘hip’ women priests and ministers to decorate their morning news segments…extremely annoying and fuckin’ irritant when there is a vote on assisted dying bills going through parliament.

We know the religiotards simply hatses the idea…what people must hear more are the reasons for, not against it preached by some ‘pretty little angel pretending her god talks to her’ every damned news report.

anubisprime, I’d be happy if there were some airtime for fisking. Just plain let-them-fall-where-they-may debunking of all the crap going around. To keep it as impartial as possible, I’d prioritize by how much coverage any given factoid is getting (and mention them all) and just fire away.

I think it could be a big audience draw, frankly. People love to see the High and Mighty taken down, and if they wince at being on the receiving side, well, just look at them other guys!
