Miller: Refugee Children a Threat to Our Survival

As the right wing continues to freak out about the presence of about 50,000 kids who are refugees from Central America, Joe Miller, a former Senate candidate from Alaska and Tea Party darling, says that their presence in this country is a threat to our very survival!

In an interview with Steve Deace last week, Alaska Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller said that “our national integrity is at stake” from the influx of Central American child refugees at the southern border and claimed that President Obama is intentionally exacerbating the crisis in an effort “to act contrary to the interests of this country.”

“This is something that does put the very survival of this country at stake,” he added.

Uh, why? Seriously, spell out exactly how they threaten the country’s survival. Are they going to join together to form some unstoppable Transformers-type weapon? Do they have nuclear bombs hidden inside their bodies? Even if we keep every one of them here, feed them and clothe them and give them an education, what will happen? Well, they’ll grow up and mostly become productive citizens. How exactly is that a threat to the nation’s survival?

Do these people ever bother to think about what they’re saying? Do they even care whether it makes any sense or is true? I think the answer is no. They’re just demagogues spreading irrational fear. What else can they do? It’s not like they have any actual ideas or anything.

Remeber Galaxy Quest and the scene with the baby-looking aliens with the sharp teeth?

Oops. Hit the wrong key. I meant to finish with:

    IMMIGRANT CHILDREN EAT PEOPLE!

I do get the impression at times wingbats / nutters / thugs are (mostly) innumerate. In this case, 50000 is a “big” number so “they” must be swamping USAlienstan’s schools and hospitals and and and… (In some locales there could be an atom of truth there, but nationwide?)

    Chiroptera,

Are you sure the Soylent Corporation isn’t behind this as a cheap source of raw material?

These children are seeking refuge from a set of violent conditions that our War-on-Drugs orchestrated and fostered.

    We own them.

  6. captainoblivious says

Some commenters on the crazy sites are celebrating that some kids are drowning crossing the Rio Grande.

I guess as long as they aren’t fetuses, it’s OK if the kids die, then?

  7. Trebuchet says

They’re all going to vote in the 2014 election! Because ACORN!

Oh, and Joe Miller: Are you of pure Inuit, Aleut, or other Native Alaskan descent? Did you or your ancestors ask those peoples permission before settling there? Congratulations. You’re an illegal immigrant. At best, an Anchor Baby.

It’s Ok as long as they have brown skin and lack several million dollars.

  9. Randomfactor says

Obama, through executive order, should designate each of the kids as a closely-held corporation. Those things are invincible.

Just as long as it’s not Michael Bay’s version of Devastator. Personally I’d rather have it be one of those third party Transformer style toy companies meant for adults that cost $40+ each.

Of course this is threat! Have none of you ever heard of “child soldiers”?!? This is just the first wave of soldiers in the Muslim/Chinese takeover from Mexico!!

  12. dugglebogey says

Again, if several thousand children can destroy America, it doesn’t deserve to survive.

I find it especially ironic that this is coming from an Alaskan. If you put 50,000 immigrant children in Denali National park, the population average would be 1 person per 120 acres of parkland.

Actually, not such a bad idea. Although it would probably work if an existing church did it and claimed to have the right under the RFRA. Hard to argue that giving refuge to children isn’t a deeply-held requirement of a long list of religions.

Of course, it doesn’t involve making up your own “scientific” facts, but still …

  15. dukeofomnium says

They’re going to come together and form Voltron (or possibly El Voltrone, since the kids speak Spanish). We’re in trouble now.

  16. Arion says

Oh, it’s even worse than that, but a friend sent me to an article where they were blaming the refugees for a guys dog dying and then giving his owner the plague, in Colorado.

  17. boadinum says

“the influx of Central American child refugees at the southern border” is just a decoy to divert people’s attention from the masses of Chinese soldiers on the northern border.

  18. says

As I sit here listening to the local “drive time” the two guys (self-reported “moderates”) are saying that we should just send ‘em back and carping about the cost of keeping them here and who’s gonna pay for it, yadayadayada…. Meanwhile the Paul Begalaish lady on the show is whining instead of telling them what cheapskate, hard-hearted fuckers they are.

If they were coming in from Cuba or, better yet, Crimea, the same people who are demonizing then now would be screaming that we need to do something.

This. Well said / writ Ed.

In the end it’ll get ‘em nowhere.

Same as where the refugee children are going.

But the refugee kids are worth something and will make much more of their lives and life better for all unlike those T-party dipshits.

(Also T-party? Worst. Party. Evah. /Comic store guy voice.)
