King Thinks Billions of Immigrants Are On the Way

Rep. Steve King has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the loopiest members of Congress, ranking up there — err, down there — with Bachmann and Gohmert. And now he says that if we don’t send in the national guard to secure the Mexican border, we’ll have billions of immigrants coming here. And he didn’t misspeak — he meant to say that.

Saying that since Obama has the resources necessary to close the border but is refusing to do so, King therefore urged border governors to call up their National Guard units and do it themselves because soon “it won’t be any longer a question of whether we can deport eleven million people; it will be tens of millions more and the question will be how many billion people can we let into the United States?”

“And I say that term ‘billion,’ I didn’t just pull it out of the air,” King made clear, “there’s seven billion people on the planet and over half of them would like to be in America.”

There must be a contest, with rules, entry fees, etc., to see who can say the most inane crap. And it has to be crap that shouldn’t fool a second-grade kid.

@1: No, Obama will be teleporting them to Mexico so they can cross the border. It’s similar technology to his time machine. Why yes, I HAVE been watching too much Doctor Who.

This is why we simply must deploy ships of war along the border per Gomerts demands. Any kid trying to sneak across the border can be taken out by laser guided missles launched from a cruiser.

Get those ships deployed, Obama! I expect to see them sailing up I-10 from San Diego today!

See what happens! First you let in the Irish then everyone wants to come over.

Back in the 1960s the Prime Minister of Australia (Bob Menzies) won an election by claiming that the Indonesians were preparing to invade and only he could save us.

When asked how the Indonesians would get here, Menzies said they would be arriving on logs, and rafts, and sampans.

Politicians will never go wrong pushing xenophobia.

He probably thinks that brown-skinned people are ever so much dumber than he is that they won’t ever find a way across a border that cannot be made into a free-fire zone even across all of Texas. Hell, people have found ways out of N. Korea, East Germany, Gaza, Cuba, and Soviet era Romania (to the then less awful Tito’s Yugoslavia, even when those borders included minefields, kill zones, search dogs, and people with mirrors looking for those clinging to the underside of railroad cars). Here we are talking about people who have already built mile long tunnels under fences as a way to transport goods and people. Minefields and troops stationed in watchtowers every hundred feet with a wide enough kill zone would reduce the numbers that try to cross that way, but who is willing to pay for that? Especially if all it does is move the crossable border to the North side of the U.S. or by sea from East and West. How much death and brutality are we willing to allow to make crossing more expensive and dangerous?

As long as rich people can hire cheap nannies, gardeners, dishwashers, bus boys, etc. without substantial risk of going to jail as felons (and maybe even then)…

You make it sound like those are costs instead of benefits.

Just imagine if the gun cameras were on Pay Per View. It’d not only pay for itself, it would fund the next tax cut.

You can build a wall all across the border, but no wall will stop them as long as they have a reason to cross it. Sure, you could cease the Drug War and rebuild Central America, but that would take time and money and neither of those things are worth spending on dirty foreigners. It’s easier just to let the Republicans destroy the economy. Then it’ll be the Mexicans complaining about “Those People” sneaking across the border and stealing their jobs. That’ll show ‘em!

Fortunately, Stevie, not a lot of them seem to want to live in your little plot. For fuckssake, for all the engineers educated in central Iowa, you’d think at least some of them might stick around long enough to fix up your shitty infrastructure.

Don’t you have to count all the anchor babies and rampant election fraud by ACORN. Once you add these numbers in you can totally get to a billion, dude.

Billions of Chinese people are building up their calf muscles [1] right now. Soon they’ll be ready for the big swim to Tijuana and then the invasion begins.

He’s only off by a small magnitude, technically speaking. Around 350 million is pretty close to a billion. So there we are, there are 350 million permanent residents occupying land that never belonged to them. What’s another billion, anyway? Oh, they’re darker than King. I see the problem now.

No, they’ll be coming through the trans-Pacific tunnel that was built back in Mao’s day. I saw it in a documentary called Battle Beneath the Earth.
