Vile Anti-Atheist Political Attack in Tennessee

Heidi Campbell is running for the city commission in Oak Hill, Tennessee on a platform of opposing more commercial development, but her opponents discovered that she’s a secular humanist (or at least was part of a secular humanist group on Facebook) and are using that for a vile attack on her.

The direct-mail smear campaigns have begun hitting Oak Hill mailboxes, with these gems — aimed at anti-development candidate Heidi Campbell — raising the specter of GODLESS HEATHENS LIVING IN OUR MIDST!

First, Campbell has apparently liked a Facebook page for secular humanists. SCANDAL!

Second — and this is our favorite because of its complete over-the-top stupidity — apparently Campbell would use her new-found power to DRIVE ALL OF THE CHURCHES FROM OAK HILL!

The back of the mailer says:

Heidi’s plan to eliminate faith-based churches and schools so Oak Hill is “residential only” is driven by her secular humanism, which is at odds with all faith-based institutions.

But remember, it’s humanism that makes you immoral and dishonest, say these anti-humanist liars.

Well, she is toast. It’s Tennessee.

Far as I can tell, she will be very lucky if she isn’t driven out of Tennessee. It’s happened to secularists in places like Alabama and Missouri. IIRC, the xians in Missouri once kidnapped someone’s they didn’t like cat. It was returned, dead.

Aren’t churches and schools normally allowed land uses in area zoned “residential?” They are where I live.

What is it with these people and ALL CAPS?

avoids brain-sprain from having to work out when to use caps and when not

    AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!

makes sure the caps keys are functioning smoothly

and anyways there aint no such thing as lower case crayons

(caps and exclams deliberately avoided in a probably ineffectual attempt to restore balance to the ‘net)

    (my emphases)

Am I too optimistic in thinking they jumped the shark with that lie? It’s pretty bold to claim that someone running for office wants to eliminate all non-residential property in the city.

“Heidi’s plan to eliminate faith-based churches and schools so Oak Hill is “residential only…” If this plan actually existed it would be contrary to existing federal law.

  7. Pierce R. Butler says

Oak Hill is a suburb of Nashville, not far from the patriotic Christian enclave of Murfreesboro.

Obviously Campbell’s campaign is a fifth column in the siege of that latter city by its expansionist mosque!

Ugh, according to Google maps the city of Oak Hill is a 7.2 mile drive from where I am sitting right now.

  9. caseloweraz says

So the response to Heidi Campbell’s plank of slowing commercial development in Oak Hill is to claim she will, if elected, “drive all the churches from Oak Hill.” (quotation de-frothed.)

Since churches are in residential zones, even if she got the majority of the council with her, the only way she could do this is by showing that the churches are in reality commercial operations. Maybe that’s what the good Chri$tian folk of the city are worried about. Just sayin’.

Are there any megachurches in that neck of the woods? I would imagine some of the ones with things like coffee shops and book stores in them could run afoul of zoning regs limiting businesses.

Is it just me or do all right-wing nuts project their own desires upon ideological opponents?

Maybe it’s just me, Modus, but I think you have and extra “Y” in there!

  13. spamamander, internet amphibian says

Anyone else think that MO is getting WAY too good at this, and should perhaps seek counseling?

  14. jimnorth says

Nah, MO is doing fine. I now spew all over my keyboard before I read any of Modus’s writings. Frees me up to heartily chuckle…
