Muslim Exorcism Kills Man in Pakistan

Did you know that Muslims have exorcisms just like Christians do? I didn’t. But an attempt to free a man of “demonic possession” in Pakistan using smoke ended with that man dead and the man who performed the exorcism facing possible criminal charges.

“It was just bad luck.” Baba Ijaz Bengali casually dismissed the death of a man who was brought to him to have his demons exorcised.

The ‘cure’ that involved making the person inhale smoke from a pot as the baba recited verses and moved an amulet ended up taking Muhammad Ghani’s life after he inhaled too much smoke. The incident has landed Ijaz in the lockup with murder charges.

At the Garden police station where Ijaz is serving a seven-day police remand, Ijaz said that he was receiving training on how to perform the procedure.

“I made Ghani inhale smoke for three hours but with gaps in the middle,” he said. “He was heavily possessed by djinns and when I was curing him of them, I could hear the djinns shouting back at me, ‘meray chotay ko maar diya [you have killed one of my young ones’].”

I wonder if this guy’s toupee is as bad as Bob Larson’s.

I did actually. Not that surprising given Mohammad essentially plagiarised the other Abrahamic religions and incorporated a lot of them – especially their worst bits – into his cult and that belief in demons and exorcism, the supposed “driving out of evil spirits” was rife back in the Dark Ages. Their explanation for mental illnesses among other things I guess.

Awful thing to happen. Hope this Islamist exorcist gets jail time for it.

Three hours? I know some guys with asthma that would be killed in 5 minutes.

Religion attracts control freaks. They all agree that god has the power to decide who lives and who dies, and they all strive to gain that same degree of power. The only difficulty is finding a victim weak enough to submit – but when they find one they go for it…
