The Credibility of the New Hope of Birtherism

Jerome Corsi has already expressed his hope that Michael Shrimpton, a fake intelligence expert on trial in the UK for calling in a false terrorism report, and now “Lord” Christopher Monckton is on the bandwagon too. Right Wing Watch reports on some of Shrimpton’s other bizarre claims:

As Ben Dimiero of Media Matters writes, “Apparently WND is desperate enough to keep birther conspiracies alive that they are willing to highlight allegations that even they seemingly find implausible.”

WND has also reported on Shrimpton’s related conspiracy theory that a terrorist group planned to launch an attack on the London Olympics with a nuclear weapon stolen from a sunken Russian submarine.

But that’s not all, as Shrimpton even claims to have evidence showing that “a secret German intelligence agency” known as DVD is behind a major pedophile ring linked to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and is responsible for Madeleine McCann’s abduction. On top of that, Shrimpton claims that the purported German secret intelligence unit/pedophile ring worked with China to blow up the missing Malaysia Airlines plane with a submarine.

And now he claims that the CIA and British intelligence have proof that Obama’s mother is not his real mother and that he was born in Kenya. Seems legit.

The Mad Monckton has been making Birther claims like that for a while as for instance seen here :

Esp. at the 50 seconds to 1 minute10 secs mark via Greenman3610 “climate denial Crock of the WeeK” series – part 1 of two with both clips (hell all of his just about!) being entertaining and very informative.

    “Lord” Christopher Monckton

Despite his many failings and character flaws, Monckton does happen to be a genuine lord, being the third Viscount Monckton of Brenchley. Granddad became the first viscount after helping Edward VIII abdicate. Chris is the eldest son of the eldest son and, with both dad and granddad dead, is the third viscount.

    Re Al Dente @ #4

However, Monckton has also claimed falsely that he is a member of the British House of Lords. This claim has been totally repudiated by the officials of that body.

  4. Trebuchet says

@3: I’ve given up correcting Ed on that, having done so repeatedly in the past.
@4: Irrelevant. He’s still a “lord” who legitimately holds the title.

Oh, great. Now Obama’s IRS is gonna crack down on these guys, too. Then his secret Obamacare army will drag them off to the FEMA camps, where he’ll steal their Medicare to fund the UN’s Gay Agenda 21 chemtrails anti-Christian black-on-white violence! Why do you think Obama’s DHS “needed” to buy all those billions of rounds of ammunition? That’s right: Solyndra HAARP! Just like Hitler!

And all this for Netflix sending him something asking that he return an overdue DVD. Doesn’t take much to set off a conspiracy theorist.

I’m a Monckton Denier. There’s no way someone could be that consistently wrong. Except Bill Kristol. And Dick Morris. And a bunch of other people. But just them, no more.

Here’s a link to the source of those videos. I’m sure that the blogs resident climage change denier, Sir Lancelot, will be less then enthusiastic about them

Shrimpton’s ideas are so weird they make almost anyone else look sane. I’ll bet Lyndon LaRouche is feeling left behind these days; he only claimed the Queen of England headed up an international drug ring.

  10. caseloweraz says

Colnago80: It is my understanding that Monckton is also an HIV/AIDS denier.

I think it’s more accurate to say he claims to be able to cure AIDS and a bunch of other diseases.

That’s why he’s given up the soapbox and spends all his time perfecting and marketing his medical breakthroughs. /sarc

    Re: “Lord”

I can understand a reticence to use such titles without scare quotes, especially if one believes as I do that they and their associated privileges have no place in modernity. Basically shorthand for “I’ll use the title so everyone understands whom we are talking about, but I do not recognize its political legitimacy.”

However, I don’t recall Ed ever scare-quoting any other aristocrats’ unearned appellations, so maybe it’s just a silly ad hom against a guy he doesn’t like, eh?

  12. iangould says

Back in the 80’s, Monckton, then an adviser to Thatcher, wanted to intern HIV-positive people, claiming it was the only way to prevent a pandemic.

He more recently claimed to have personally invented a general-purpose cure for autoimmune diseases, including AIDS.

So far as I know, he’s never actually denied that HIV causes AIDS.

Since it seems to need to be said frequently that is not an ad hominem it’s an insult.

Insult: X is an asshole and he’s wrong.
Ad hominem: X is wrong because he’s an asshole.

  14. John Pieret says

    Noadi:

    A bit more correctly:

Insult: X is an asshole and he’s wrong.

Ad hominem: X is wrong because he’s an X and we all know Xs are assholes.

In Monckton’s case, if someone said “Monckton is a British lord and we all know what twits they are,” that is an ad hominem. If someone says “Monckton claims he is in the House of Lords and he isn’t and, therefore, you shouldn’t trust him to tell the truth about anything else,” that’s an empiric claim about Monckton and the conclusion is something the audience can evaluate.

On the other hand, the statement that “Monckton is an asshole on any number of issues and you shouldn’t trust what he says on this issue” is neither an ad hominem nor merely an insult, its an an empiric claim about Monckton and a claim we can all evaluate.

While trying to find out something about Shrimpton (something that wasn’t written by SPLC or the brazillion KKKonservaloons who are gushing about him) I came across this blog:

    http://www.obamaconspiracy.org/

looks like it might be fun to visit from time to time; anyone else familiar with it?

Not that I’m suggesting anyone go there, but I found a link to Orly Taitz website saying that he contacted her over a year ago, with this information. And she did NOT come forward with it! Why does Orly hate MurKKKa?!?!?!
