Is There Anything the Right Won’t Politicize?

As you probably heard, Chelsea Clinton announced that she and her husband are expecting their first child later this year. Predictably, some on the right are trying to turn it into a political issue. Steve Malzberg, for example, says that this was timed deliberately to help Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

He doesn’t bother explaining why it would help her campaign at all, much less why this particular timing of it, two years before the election would help the campaign more than any other time. He’s just sure that there must be something corrupt about it. No actual evidence or even coherent argument required.

    No actual evidence…

Sure there is! Ms Clinton is, well, a Clinton. Hence, Obama. QED.

Well, they are quite cute at two. At that stage they can walk, talk in words, and are starting to form sentences.

The really ridiculous thing here is thinking anyone can “time” a baby. Maybe some superfecund couple can do that, but it doesn’t really work that way for most people. You try and sometimes it takes a month, sometimes it takes a year. Or two or three, if you’re really unlucky.

Simply another case of ObamaClinton-hatred syndrome. Anything they do causes RWers to turn the insanity to 11. It makes absolutely no difference whether it makes sense or not.

Well, let’s see… Arugula? nope. Dijon mustard? Sorry, politicized.

The conclusion is unavoidable: there is nothing the right-wing won’t politicize.

  5. dugglebogey says

Huh. This will make Hillary a grandma. When you call someone a grandma that makes people think of their grandma. Everyone loves their grandma but nobody thinks their grandma would have made a good president.

So I’m not sure it’s good that Hillary will be a grandma by the time the election comes.

  6. garnetstar says

Also, Hillary is able to cause her daughter to conceive at will, whenever Hillary chooses. So, the pregnancy was clearly timed to help her in the election.

  7. Trebuchet says

Ed, Ed, Ed. You just don’t get it. It’s not the right that’s politicizing it, it’s the Clintons. By having a baby.

  8. John Pieret says

Well, having a grandchild will make everyone forget that she wants to kill all the babies with abortion and being a grandma will make everyone forget she wants death panels to kill all the other grandmas.

  9. eric says

@9 – having a grandchild gives Hilary MORE reason to want to do those things!!! After all, how else is she going to feed her grandkid!!! [/rightwingrant]

  10. busterggi says

The righties are just upset that she isn’t having an abortion for them to have the vapors over.

  11. felidae says

And the right applauded when Palin dragged her Down’s syndrome daughter around as a campaign prop

  12. John Pieret says

That’s not Max Headroom. Max made sense … um … most of the time. This is a cheesy imitator. I think he’s named Max Headupass.

So, the political threat is that Hillary’s grandchild will be at a higher developmental stage that most of the other side’s candidates?

Yep. Not only is there nothing that the Right won’t politicize, there’s nothing that the Right won’t politicize that they won’t accuse the Left of politicizing first.

You win the internets for today!

I thought the meme was that Hilary Clinton was the father (after all, in Wingnut World, biology is whatever you want it to be).

Does this have anything to do with Whitewater? Where’s Ken Starr when we need him?

    Eric@2:

There is a reason that they call it the “terrible twos.” Two-year-olds can be a real pain.

I note that yours was comment number 2. Coincidence, or are you part of the conspiracy?

  18. mikeyb says

Nope there is no floor for how low they will go. I tuned into right wing radio the other day to hear about the great ‘controversy’ about Michelle Obama giving a graduation speech at a high school in Kansas. They don’t even bother to try to disguise their racism these days.

  19. Artor says

Considering that Chelsea is likely to carry a lot of the burden for her mother’s campaign, wouldn’t it actually be harmful to Hillary’s chances to have Chelsea also in the midst of new motherhood? But that would make sense, and wingnuts can’t have that.

  20. says

    No.

Example: If Hillary Clinton announced she had breast cancer, it would be something she made happen to elicit sympathy and sew up the women’s vote.
