ATLAH Church: Gay People Should Be Stoned

Pastor James David Manning of ATLAH Worldwide Missionary Church in Harlem continues to make the most vile and disgusting statements, especially on the church’s marquee. The latest is to declare that Jesus would stone gay people to death as it commands in Leviticus.

An anti-gay church in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood greeted passersby with a horrifying, homophobic message: “Jesus would stone homos.”

ATLAH Worldwide Missionary, led by Pastor James David Manning, posted the message on a sign outside its 123rd Street location. “Jesus would stone homos,” the message read, along with “Stoning is still the law” and Bible verses Matthew 5:17-19, Deuteronomy 17:5-7, Leviticus 20:13 and John 8:1-11.

The Leviticus passage, which is often cited in anti-gay rhetoric, says: “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Do they even read their own Bible? There’s a story about Jesus that quite obviously bears directly on this claim, the story of the woman caught in adultery. Like homosexuality, the Old Testament commands that adultery be punished by stoning. But Jesus not only did not stone her, he admonished those who wanted to with the famous statement, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Not only is this claim not consistent with human decency, it isn’t even consistent with their own Bible.

Ironically Manning and the other haters could point out that the “he who is without sin” is almost certainly a later addition and not part of the original John, but their belief in inerrancy does not allow for such wiggle room.

This is tame. Only gays? The same magic book prescribes stoning to death for nonvirgin brides, gays, blasphemy, heretics, atheists, disobedient children, false prophets, adulterers, and sabbath breakers.

If you add up the numbers, it runs around 99% of the population. Going to be a lot of dead people and empty cities if the fundies ever take over.

A lot of fundie xian death cults have Want To Kill lists. I’m on them. If you are reading Freethoughtblogs, chances are you are too. And that is one main reason I’m an…ex-xian.

Ironically, after the fundies finish their biblical law mass murder party, the US would cease to exist. The Mexicans, Canadians, and Russians would just walk in and colonize all the empty space. Who knows, maybe even the Native Americans would reclaim their continent.

Mass homicide for trivial reasons is not a viable strategy for survival.

    Only the bad parts.

He would? How rude. Most people at weddings just throw confetti.

As their delusion fades and trickles away into the gutter of mythological clap trap they will be moved to be even more in your face and vile just to strut their existence and assuage their fear and ignorance.

They do not like being ignored, they are performing like the recalcitrant toddler with a frump on that they are not being listened to by the grown ups or are not the centre of attention.

They drift into all sorts of make believe to justify their sorry asses.

And that includes patently obnoxious claims because they so wish it were real…but probably realise deep down it will never be so, it makes them bitter and twisted, and ever so hate filled !

Well, ok … but who’s paying for the weed?

    “Stoning is still the law”

If “Reverend” Manning and his band of haters actually carry out what he is advocating, he better have a better defense than that.

He actually does know that story – he used it as one of his cited verses, John 8:1-11. Does he somehow think that it supports his case?

Either he is a monumental idiot, or whoever put up the lettering on the sign was having a laugh.

Manning just wants gay people to move to Colorado and Washington state.

As if those places weren’t fabulous enough already.

I’d wager a CONSIDERABLE amount of money that Manning doesn’t keep the Sabbath holy, at least not according to the old laws, and so should be the first one to be buried elbow deep and pummeled. Keeping the Sabbath holy means a lot more than just going to church and not working.

Let he who is without sin light the first doobie.

These cretins have one thing in common with each other, their sheer cowardice and fear, they will happily watch and enjoy the screams of young nubile women being burnt to death at the stake, and will applaud with sadistic drooling glee as homosexuals are being stoned to death…but they will never throw the first stone or spark the kindling of the pyre, they much prefer the shiver of excitement at the thought, that is the sadistically themed pornography they all prefer, they love cursing or threatening everyone not deluded to a hell of their own invention, that is a oft wet dream they also have in common, but have not the courage to actually do anything about making it a physical reality.

Well OK. That works for me.

I can’t get stoned anyway. Work to do and cats to feed.

@raven #2. It is not true that the Bible advocates stoning non-virgin brides. It advocates stoning brides whose hymens are insufficiently damaged on their wedding nights to leave tangible evidence – something that often happens to virgin brides as well.

I don’t get it. Their religion is supposed to be about universally loving all mankind, yet all I hear from them lately is hate, who we hate, why we hate, you should hate.

    Nice religion you got there.

Never mind the silly wishful thinking about how Jesus was a liberal Democrat or something.

Of course he would stone homos.

BTW, that’s not an agument in favor of stoning homos. OK?

Do they even read their own Bible?

Of course. But the Bible can only be properly interpreted through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost.

You can argue from reason and scholarship all you want: those are man’s ways. You cannot argue against the Holy Ghost. Spirituality, not religion.

    Their position is inviolable.

Yes, and it’s one of the passages cited on that church’s sign…John 8 : 1-11. Apparently Pastor James David Manning doesn’t understand the meaning of the story.

Ed, you are wrong. Andy Schlafly discovered that the text of the Bible has been tinkered with by liberals, and the verses about not stoning the adulteress were introduced by them to make Jesus look progressive. (Also the verses where Jesus says to the thieves crucified with him “This day you will be in paradise.”).

No really, Andy did find that.

Perhaps Mr. Schlafly should hire Dean Chambers to unskew the texts.

Back in my old talk.origins days, Andy Schlafly also “discovered” that the Devil’s Tower was created by the Noachian flood … pushed up by the weight of all that water. Let’s just say that evidence is not Andy’s strong suite.

A few weeks ago, he announced that Obama was possessed by homo-demons. That was a lot funnier. He also advocates an independent Harlem (the area considerably greater than what is usually considered Harlem) under his personal rule and the deportation of and the seizure of all assets belonging to all non-African Americans and all African American landlords. Otherwise, he decides who stays, I guess. A few years back, a rather small contingent of southern theotards who had heard of his anti-Obama sermons, came up to picket the church in his support. They were interviewed on local TV as were some local residents. They seemed nervous, the residents seemed amused both with the picketers and with Manning.

Coffee fuckin’ everywhere …as I tried to imagine the the inevitable tasteful and stylish if not actually out and out fabulous Haute couture ensemble and the ‘to die for’ shoes, that the most very very enthusiastic homosexually dedicated demons would sport?…failed miserably and regretted the coffee timing….

The idea is that stoning is really cool! If you are the one throwing the stones, in a big, sanctioned and anonymous group, at someone you don’t feel like empathizing with and don’t personally know or like.

Because you’re a stunted, sick version of a human being.

I would like to point out that men don’t “lie” with men as they do with women. Because, well, men don’t have vaginas. Phil Robertson, at least, says it ain’t the same.

“Yes, and it’s one of the passages cited on that church’s sign…John 8 : 1-11. Apparently Pastor James David Manning doesn’t understand the meaning of the story.”

Well, the way I heard it, IIRC, was JESUS stared down the crowd, uttered the “Let he who is without sin…” line and then watched in horror as rock the size of a cantaloupe arced up from the back of the crowd and hit the woman in the head, killing her instantly. HE heaved a sigh, looked up to the heavens and shouted, “Mother, sometime you really PISS ME OFF!!”.

I admit that there may have been some inaccuracies in the translation from the original English.

Look, you liberals are all misinterpreting that story. Typical!

Jesus said, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” He’s not telling them to not stone the filthy adulterer, he’s complaining they didn’t let him start it off!

Sadly, that is an ACTUAL explanation of that passage I got from a creationist some time back.
