Cath. School Won’t March in Parade if Gay Veterans Can

A Catholic school marching band is withdrawing from the annual Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade because a group of gay military veterans have also been approved to march in it. Because apparently just walking down the same street with gay people can give you the cooties.

A Catholic school in Harvard will not march in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Boston after learning that a gay military veterans group will be allowed to participate in the parade.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary School’s band and students have marched in the annual South Boston parade for nearly 25 years alongside a float depicting the culture and faith of Irish people around the central figure of Saint Patrick.

“The familiar scene of Saint Patrick joyfully giving his blessing to the crowds has, sad to say, come to an end. In the footsteps of Saint Patrick, IHM does not condone and will not appear to condone the homosexual lifestyle,” Principal Thomas Dalton said.

Organizers of the parade have decided to ease its two-decade ban on gay organizations, a MassEquality official said Saturday.

A group of gay military veterans will be allowed to march under its banner in a tentative deal brokered by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh. Marchers from the gay rights group would not be allowed to wear clothing or hold signs that refer to sexual orientation.

“Homosexual acts are gravely immoral and are not to be promoted in any way,” Dalton said.

Apparently just co-existing with gay people is “promoting” a “gravely immoral” lifestyle. Of course, there will be liars, adulterers and all manner of other sinners marching in the parade too, but being gay is totally different. Good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

The same magic book, also condemns, adulterers, nonvirgin brides, sabbath breakers, false prophets, heretics, apostates, atheists, witches, and disobedient children as death penalty offenses.

As well as the usual sins of lying, stealing, coveting your neighbor’s donkey, worshipping graven images, eating shellfish and pork, and so on.

If they aren’t going to let sinners march in a parade, there wouldn’t be a parade.

All xians are cafeteria xians,. And many are also cafeteria haters.

    From the linked story:

“”Homosexual acts are gravely immoral and are not to be promosted in any way,” Dalton said.””

    Which acts are those?

Having loving, stable relationships with their partners? Raising children in decent homes?

Or are you just thinking about the campy costuming, assfucking and cocksucking?

Cuz, if it’s the latter? A lot of your students’ parents (and some of your students, prolly) are engaging in that same behavior. Thn of course there are the priestly paedophiles.

  3. Artor says

You can tell that the church refuses to condone immorality by the way they turn over child-raping priests to the legal authorities. My heart bleeds for them and their tender, delicate sensibilities.

    thinking about the campy costuming

Are you kidding? Have you seen the goofy get-up catholic clergy wear? I mean, they’ve made a bondage collar part of the uniform!

  5. bushrat says

I approve of this. Hopefully the message spreads and other Christian organizations will also stop appearing in public events.

  6. Sastra says

They will no doubt start putting those little signs up on their front laws: “Keep the SAINT in St. Patrick’s Day!”

Alas. Too many people are secularizing the holiday into being about leprechauns, shamrocks, Ireland, and booze — and thus forgetting it’s true meaning: it belongs to the Catholics.

LOOK I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT THIS A SLIPPERY SLOPE. FIRST YOU ALLOW THE GAYHOMOS TO JOIN AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOUR TOTALLY HETEROSEXUAL PARADE WILL HAVE FLOATS. THEN YOUR CHILREN WILL START ASKING QUESTIONS AND YOULL HAVE TO EXPLAIN THAT WHILE GOD THE LAW HISTORY AND YOUR FAMILY DONT APPROVE OF THE FLOAT RIDING LIFESTYLE SOME PEOPLE CHOOSE TO RIDE ON FLOATS.

AND THEN YOUR YES YOUR CHILDREN COULD DECIDE THAT THEY WANT TO RIDE ON FLOATS TOO.

Good thing The Immaculate Heart of Mary School withdrew. Otherwise the gay veterans would have been promoting parochial education.

Religious bigots voluntarily removing themselves from the public square to make room a message of tolerance and inclusiveness, good deal.

” Marchers from the gay rights group would not be allowed to wear clothing or hold signs that refer to sexual orientation.”

Wow, they’re forcing them not to have signs referring to their sexual orientation whilst forcing them to march naked*? That’ll show those troublesome priests!
    :) Dingo
    ——–
    * maybe they’ll be able to only do one of these options, to the exclusion of the other

Did the Marching Band play in last year’s St. Pat’s Parade?
It was on a Sunday. Holy Sabbath-breakers, Batman!

IHM does not condone and will not appear to condone the homosexual lifestyle,” Principal Thomas Dalton said.

Oh, goody! We finally found someone who is without sin to cast the first stone!

  12. Chiroptera says

“Homosexual acts are gravely immoral and are not to be promoted in any way,” Dalton said.

And how do they protest this?

“The familiar scene of Saint Patrick joyfully giving his blessing to the crowds has, sad to say, come to an end.”

They are protesting the “promotion of homosexual acts” by…refusing to promote Catholicism. Hey, works for me!

  13. marcus says

There they go again, demonstrating that they are responsible, dedicated, and valuable members of our society, serving their country with pride and distinction.
What will we tell the childrunz?!?!

  14. flatlander100 says

Will Catholic Bishops who covered up child-molesting priests be marching? Would parade organizers allow a unit that large?

  15. says

Good deal. Now the vets group won’t have to give the appearance of condoning the deeply immoral Catholic faith either. Everybody wins!

Scanned the comments on the original WCVB article, and many are surprisingly positive. Nice.

  17. cptdoom says

Wow, I hope Principal Dalton does not get wind of what’s going to happen at the other end of his Commonwealth this St. Patrick’s Day. Out in Holyoke, MA (90 miles west of Boston), where I grew up, they have a parade that rivals Boston for size (they constantly argue which is larger). Holyoke also has a (gasp! and clutch the pearls!) gay mayor. He’ll be marching in the parade, with his significant other. What will the children think? Probably, “there goes our gay mayor and his boyfriend,” this is, after all, Massachusetts, and methinks the children at IHM may have been exposed to TEH GAY before and survived.

  18. Michael Heath says

Allowing gay veterans to march in this St. Patrick’s Day parade is one step away from feeding Christians to the lions. Can’t you all see that? Or has Satan blinded you?

  19. says

Instead of the high school marching band, can we have a float featuring Cardinal Bernard Law being horsewhipped for his role in covering up decades of child sex abuse?

  20. dugglebogey says

Next they will let people march in the parade while wearing garments made of two types of cloth mixed together, which is expressly forbidden in Leviticus 19:19.

  21. Big Boppa says

Do they realize that, according to demographics, roughly 4 -5% of their student band members are probably gay? Factor that by the 25 years they’ve been marching in the parade and that’s a whole lotta homo music they’ve been letting slide by. If they were really committed to their intolerance, they should go all in and just close down the whole freakin school. The kids would be better off going to a godless public school and they could repurpose the building as a home for unrepentant pedophiles. They seem to have a much higher tolerance threshold for that lot.

  22. says

Big Boppa “Do they realize that, according to demographics, roughly 4 -5% of their student band members are probably gay?”
Ridiculous. The average among the brass section is way higher than that.*

    * Take that, brass section! Percussions rule, woodwinds drool! Woo! Go percussion!

  23. busterggi says

dc, “Instead of the high school marching band, can we have a float featuring Cardinal Bernard Law being horsewhipped for his role in covering up decades of child sex abuse?”

I take it you think that he wouldn’t enjoy that?

  24. hunter says

What strikes me most, in common with most other utterances of the conservative “Christians,” is the sheer arrogance and self-absorption of Dalton’s statement. How does he manage to live in a the first state to recognize same-sex marriage, after all, if marching in a parade means he “condones” a “lifestyle”?

  25. whheydt says

Well…that will sure teach the high school kids not to tolerate gays… Either that, or it will teach those high school kids in the band that (a) the Catholic Church does tolerate what they (the kids) believe, and (b) convince the kids to leave the fold at warp speed.

  26. jnorris says

Thank you Dingojack. I too was worried about the veterans having to march neeked.

Over all, I wonder if a float featuring every word Jesus and St Patrick said condemning gays would be OK instead?

  27. gardengnome says

I’m left wondering what effect this may have on the band members. I suspect, without evidence, they wouldn’t care about the issue and will be disappointed to miss out. Of course, they might already be thoroughly indoctrinated in Christian ‘love’.

  28. dan4 says

@26: Uh, I am familiar with the Biblical verses against people who eat shellfish and get divorced. I’m not QUITE familiar with the one condemning those against testicular cancer.

  29. says

    @21:

Micheal Heath, your snarkmojo is badass, bro! It’s so close to being, THERE. I just know that a couple of one-on-one workshops with me would get you over the top. I’m kinda pressed for time lately (I’ve been running some intensive insensitivity workshops for KKKristians) but I can prolly shoehorn you in, if you got teh Benjamins.
