Steven Seagal Loves Him Some Putin

Our favorite washed-up has-been actor and weapons-grade moron Steven Seagal is finally speaking out about Putin’s invasion of Crimea — and thank goodness, haven’t we all been waiting for his thoughtful reaction to it? — and he’s all for it. And he thinks Putin is so peachy that he just might apply for Russian citizenship.

Pakistani Christian Gets Death Penalty for Blasphemy

In yet another example of astonishing barbarism and totalitarianism, a Christian in Pakistan has been sentenced to death for blasphemy for comments he allegedly made to a Muslim friend during an argument. The case already saw violent attacks on the Christian community in that country by mobs of barbarians.

Atheists, Please Stop Saying These Things

Tuesday night I participated in a panel discussion at Grand Valley State University with six other atheists (three students, three professors and me). Someone brought up something that is often said to atheists by Christians, that they really do believe in God even if they claim not to (“in their heart of hearts” in the often annoying phrase). I pointed out that this was offensive and patronizing.

Do They Ever Stop Lying?

A few months ago, the Air Force Academy decided to allow officer candidates to omit the phrase “so help me God” from their oaths upon graduation. That set off a typhoon of dishonesty and demagoguery that has yet to subside. A huge coalition of Christian right groups put up this billboard near the campus of the academy:

Russia’s Anti-Gay Law and Population

Neil Munro seems to be rather unhappy that the Obama administration is pressuring Uganda, Russia and other countries to stop violating the human rights of LGBT people, dismissing it as “hard-edged effort to punish countries that disagree with its gay rights agenda.” I’ll take dishonest spin for $1000, Alex. And he offers this rather weird excuse for Russia’s policy:

Rand Paul Hires Terrible Pollster

Rand Paul is diligently working on his 2016 Republican presidential bid and assembling a national campaign team. In what can only be described as a very odd move, he’s hired one of the most biased and inaccurate pollsters in the country, Fritz Wenzel (you may remember him from doing lots of polls for the Worldnetdaily). Right Wing Watch points out his long history of being wildly off the mark. For instance, just two months before the 2012 election he was trying to “unskew” the polls:

Bravo, Randal Rauser

Randal Rauser is a Christian apologist who has written a book with John Loftus in which he defends Christianity. But to his great credit, he has no desire to defend the warped priorities of so many fundamentalist Christians who are outraged about gay people but unconcerned about actual moral evils. Writing about the horrendous freakout brought on by World Vision’s decision to not discriminate against gay people in their hiring (which was quickly rescinded due to the uproar), he points out what is being ignored:

Bin Laden Son-in-Law Convicted

Hey, remember all that Republican fury over the idea that terrorists could be tried in civilian courts and convicted without the world coming to an end and dogs and cats living together? Turns out, not so much. Osama Bin Laden’s son-in-law was convicted in civilian court in New York, just like hundreds of others have been.
