Look! A New Blog!

We haven’t added any new bloggers for a while, mostly because we were waiting to complete the redesign, but we’ve got one new one before that’s finished. Kaveh Mousavi is an atheist living in Iran, which gives him an interesting background and a whole lot to say (and the need to hide his real identity). His blog is entitled On the Margin of Error. Can’t wait to hear what he has to say.

    Obligatory wikipedia quote:
Moosavi (موسوی) is a patronymic, common among Iranian Shi’a Muslims, though it is originally an Arabic name. The name implies that the person is a direct descendant to the seventh of the Shi’a twelver Imams: Musa al-Kazim ibn Jafar as Sadiq

So, an atheist is using a famous patronym from the clerical aristocracy as a pseudonym… I see what you did here

Laurentweppe, Kaveh has now explained both his pseudonym and blog name and his motives are slightly different.

Mousavi comes from Mir-Hossein Mousavi who is the leader of the Green Movement, placed under house arrest. He would have had a heart attack if he had seen my blog, since he’s deeply religious. But I still admire him as the only possible leader of the Iranian pro-democracy movement, as the man who can unite seculars and reformists and the liberals and the moderates. (And atheists. Let’s include those as well).

Good try though, it didn’t occur to me that the name was anything but a randomly chosen common Iranian name for the purpose of hiding his identity.
